i share your view
roger states the racist comments havnt been heard for some time, and thats an indication that it offended people so stopped being used.
this is not the only offensive remark m frost has made over the years
he was taken off this forum for much the same reason.
when you generalise on one set of people it embraces them all and many are law abiding, getting on with there lives.

When a drum is struck, all around hear it. Not just the goats that have had the skin of one of their kind stretched taut for the purpose.
Racism is not only an insult to those 'of colour', but diminishes us all.
It is not Bob or the comment that is at the centre of this issue, but each of us. Why else would this be comment #162?
As I have said before one must use care in our choice of associates and be ever wary of group-think.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

I don't feel myself at the centre of this issue, Tom.
Much more pressing things to worry about.

Roger I was responding to the part of your post that posed the question that xyz group do not find xyz name offensive.
Sorry Keith I posted the reply too early lol. I hold the same view as you. but the fact that we can all hold differing opinions is one of the good parts of public debate

I'm sorry Sarah. I never knowingly offend anyone - it may happen, but not on purpose.
My posting really was asking why are all us white people being offended at a word that was used to describe black rioters (probably white ones too, male and female, rich and poor for all I know) - it wasn't aimed at us so why are we offended for other people, who if they are really offended, can I'm sure, speak up for themselves.

Sarah, peace be with you! The rioters are either in prison or wondering when they will be apprehended

Roger , that is a really nice message , I enjoy your posts and your commments very much . I really meant what I said about the debate on this forum ( note to self , must make posts clearer !) and I do appreciate the differences that we all express

I thought I would bring this back,as I read in the local paper that Bob has now lost his teaching job at Roger Manwood School.
I know it was the school who made the decision, but it is so unnecessary and pointless. The school and the children have lost a good teacher and Bob has lost his job and income for what ? an off-the-cuff comment about rioters in London and around the Country.
Why the looney PC brigade had to take offence on behalf of other people and keep shouting "foul" is beyond me.
I am not a racist, I don't have racist thoughts at all, but I object most strongly to "white people" taking offence on behalf of black people, where no offence was intended or received, by those who were perceived to have been offended.
Looney left Labourites like Mike Eddy, making comments about me in last week's Mercury were totally pointless and unnecessary, based on his own imagined prejudices on behalf of others, he perceived as being offended.
A good man hounded out of his job by bandwagon-jumping over-the-top PC brigade.
We'll be scared to say "boo" next.
Roger
I didn't see the comments in the press Roger so can't comment. But I do mildly disagree with you about taking offence on behalf of others. Clearly it is silly to try to second guess offence when we are ignorant (for example, some people who fail to understand the big picture imagining that "all muslims" will be offended if we celebrate Christmas - plainly silly and verging on the deluded!) but it really is up to all of us, as citizens and humans, to make sure that our fellow humans are not trivialised or reduced in any way. There are people who do not have the empowerment to speak for themselves and it is our job and our duty to speak with them and for them. It is only recently, for example, that people with learning disabilities have even begun to enjoy the kind of "rights" that the rest of the population take for granted - and it is only the drive and will of others striving to make sure this happened that has created the environment in which it could. There is a long way to go, but it is a good start. Without people "taking offence" on their behalf it would not have happened at all.

a lot more to it than that roger.
love the term "looney left" not heard it in years, i remember seeing a "trade union" poster in a window saying "there's only one looney left, get her out of downing street now".

I am sure a school such as Sir Roger Manwoods have acted in the best interest of their school and pupils rather than reacting to the " bandwagon-jumping over-the-top PC brigade".

Bob Frost clearly wrote his comment on Facebook the first night of the riots. He was clearly shocked. He saw on television people smashing windows, looting, burning houses and shops, in the capita;p city of his Country.
And now, he has to be sacrificed by the paranoid PC brigade for "offending" these dregs of society!
So! Because these dregs of society were offended, Bob has to go!
So next time you see people rioting in the streets of London, you can't say anything, less you "offend" them!
I think the PC brigade is a heap of...
Speaking as a dreg, I reserve the right to be offended on your behalf, or anyone elses. (BTW, I didn't riot, I am a simple dreg....)

Bern, let's get the priorities right: the rioters on the first night of the riots, to whom Bob was referring, were attacking property and people, and, according to the official TV news in those hours, were entering houses and burning them.
I see no correlation between these people's actions and people with learning disabilities.
In fact, none whatsoever!

I believe Bob is a closet racist or he would not have used the word in the first place so I am not at all surprised he has left Manwoods.
Alex, please remember there were a lot of white rioters as well as black. Bob chose only to comment on the black ones, do you really believe that what was said was ok.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

JAN;
I think you have grasped the nettle.
this was a comment clearly made by bob, knowing he would cause offence, in a desperate move he removed the comments very quickly, but all to late.
im unaware of any white( jungle bunnies) bobs words
so it was a clear direct comment on a persons particular colour.
still the school as mark r says has acted in the best interests of the pupils and the school itself.
they have stood up and been counted
now we await the decision of the local conservative party
who's own member(wayne elliott) i understand to be the one to report bob for his remarks.
