I have been scouring the national newspapers who have obviously critised Bobs comments supported by calls for Cameron (no less) to take action.
Personal bloggers have mainly not seen what all the fuss is about, stating that he is being pillaried because he is white middle class but if he was an an asian islamic extremist he would be able to say what the hell he likes without reproach..

Keith
Only reporting public reaction to Bobs comments but there is some truth in the fact that we read of extremists spouting their militant views and then claiming their rights (and benefits) under 'freedom of speech'

MAREK;
These shows that even two lefties can disagree!!!!!!!!
As you stated MAREK bob's a bright geezer, he knew when he posted on facebook that it was an open site, and that the comments would cause concern(to put it mildly)
i don't want to move away from the original heading or thread could get lost
but as said it should be no different whoever makes such comments

Ah well no Marek, you cannot say what you like nowadays..it is even more sensitive now than previously. You might remember another hi-profile Cllr, in fact there were two of them, very hi-profile, they came a cropper bigtime for what they said on here.
It's several years ago now. We have tightened up since then and dont allow the stuff in the first place. And the rest of the world has tightened up too....but on Facebook you are allowed say mostly what you like, as I understand it although Im far from an expert on Facebook as Im not on there.. but it seems racial stuff, bad language and so on can run, and thats what causes the problem. People have to supply their own restraints and many dont have restraints.

Keith/PaulB
I am not condoning Bobs comments and I would never use any language with racial undertones. I am merely presenting another side of the argument to promote discussion.
Look at the ho ha over the Robertsons Jam logo.

I need to come back to the question about who escalated this to such a level, into the national media? What gains were made and by whom?

Hard to say Bern, but poor Roger's joke on the Jokes Page went national with every national newspaper and televison carrying it...they were even camping outside his door, but he didnt mean anything at all. But only those who know him would understand that, but once you are a councillor. ..whooosh! It started small, probably someone was outraged, and then bang..it hit the bigtime. I dont think anyone tipped anyone off maliciously as nobody really had anything to gain...the story had legs of its own.
In this case KathyB would probably have got the story probably from a DDC or Conservative source, or as I understand it she knows his FB countenance well..then she may have tipped the nationals as a good story is a good story is a good story. It may simply have been through the press route rather than anyone seeking mileage.
Several years ago we endured some very nasty comments from Cllrs on here, being Cllrs we thought it was probably okay to run with it, as I mention in post 46, but those stories exploded too and finished them as I remember. It was in our early days...things have changed with us now, we dont run the stuff.
By the way we will be dropping our Jokes Page in the autumn. It has outlived its era.

A story is a story...........not to the victims. With the power of attention comes responsibility, and many people forget that.
Keith, if I find that winning kitkat I will let you know.

Mr Frost being a potential tutor to one of my grandson`s,who following yesterdays results is enroute to University in Cambridge, can only be excused for his unacceptable remarks as he was on the `silly island`or perhaps on a different planet.
We must all pay for our misdemeanours apologies Howard for changing the thread to Flashman who also had a` friend` called Coulson but dumped him when he was found out!

I am amazed that anyone, but especially someone in public office, thinks that this sort of language is ok. His attempts to justify his language were excruciating, up there with the 'my dog ate my homework' line.
He doesn't strike me as being as bright as some on here assert.
