I hope you don't mean my teeny exchange with Kathy on another forumites FB page. It was genuinely not personal, and I have to say her composure and wit in response made me smile! It matters that we can ask questions........

One day someone will mount a successful libel action against a newspaper over allegations of racism.

Peter.
Bob & anyone else can call the looter's etc, anything they want to for me, I don't care if they get offended but Bobs comments was racial and is/was offensive to decent people and trying to blame the press for the aftermath is just trying to move the blame.
I agree with Bern that the fallout is bigger than the original act but had Bob not said what he said, there would be no fallout.
Kathy.
100% integrity and doing a great job, many thanks from me, Kathy.

I read his comments as being offensive to the looters. I don't have a problem with that. I have a problem with people getting offended on behalf of that underclass of humanity who deserve no sympathy whatsoever.
I also have a problem with this relentless pursuit of a decent man.
I've said my piece on this, I shall not refer to it again.

I did, thanks Roger. I don't have a problem with people having different opinions on this or anything else, it's what keeps the world interesting

Opinions are like belly buttons. We all have one but serve no useful purpose.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
I disagree - without belly buttons where would I store my olive while I drink my martini in the bath?

It seem bizarre to me that no-one wants to point out the elephant in the room which is a local councillor spouting off as if he was a character in a 1970s ITV sit com. In the past posters have been berated for damning Dover on a world wide forum and so putting off would be investors. What impact Councillor Frost?

No impact Mark - not yet anyway.
I wouldn't have called him or his quip, an elephant in any room.
I agree that they would not now allow "Love Thy Neighbour" or Till Death do us part" on the TV - which is a shame as it showed off then and would now, the futility of racism - but took away the anger as it made it funny.
Roger
I agree with Mark the phrase used is a term of abuse to describe people of a particular background, I dont think that being PC or not even comes into it , it is an offensive phrase and should not be used. The users job, political leanings ( or not ) dont even come into it ,

Why are you offended on their behalf Sarah ? Do you know they are offended by it ? If you were a member of the gangs that rioted, would you be offended ?
How do you know that they are offended, they may think the terms is quite sweet, after all we all love bunnies - don't we ?
It is indeed Richard.
It's not even as if it is a derogatory term used nowadays; I've not heard it for years, I just assumed people found another word for black people.
It doesn't cause offence to Irish people to be called Mick or Paddy, does it ?
It doesn't cause offence to Welsh people to be called Taffy, does it ?
It doesn't cause offence to Chinese people to be called Chinky, does it ?
Black people have adopted words that we used to use as derogatory terms to insult each other and they are much worse than that used by Bob; why are we (some) feeling insulted on their behalf - it's not us being talking about ?
What about words that black people use as derogatory terms to describe/insult us white people - snowdrops, as Peter said; are we offended ?
If you are a rioter, then be insulted: black or white; male or female; rich or poor; employed or unemployed - they are all in the same grouping as far as I am concerned.
Roger
Roger how do you know what or who I am ? If your argument is I am not allowed to presume offense how can you assume non offence ?

The only assumption I made Sarah, was that you were not a rioter/looter/arsonist.
