I won't dwell on the fact that our refuse / re-cycling sequence has been changed three times in recent weeks but is has now become very silly. Initially we were given a leaflet with a new schedule, two weeks later we got another one that changed the sequence around. It then went back to square one.
I checked the website on Monday and confirmed that on Thursday it would be re-cycling. It wasn't collected. Checking again it had changed to refuse!
This morning it appeared that the re-cycling would be collected again only to find that it had apparently been collected at 07.38! Chasing the dust cart (sorry, "freighter") up the road I found that they were collecting refuse.
The obliging collectors then phoned in to report it for me as I had no hope of talking to anyone at the council on a Saturday morning.
Lo and behold they turned up and hour later with a different freighter and cleared the re-cycling.
The collectors told me that they get a lot of flak about the mismanagement when it's not their fault.
Apparently we will get another leaflet soon with a new timetable. I can't wait.
Have a nice week#end.
Terry

Same here. After God knows how many years day collection changed from Mon To Fri.
Put out recycling week last Fri as per leaflet along with rest of street. Nothing collected.
Along with half street left out for following Monday just in case. Nothing collected.
Tuesday 'phoned DDC. Profuse apologies etc. Unable to offer any collection until next scheduled i.e. a week 'next' Friday.
Carried recycling boxes back through house walked into town.
Returned to find collection for road being finished for those who had left their recycling out from previous week (mostly absent DFLs)!
Banged head on wall. Drove two weeks newspapers and magazines and Amazon cardboard to recycling point at Sainsburys. Full.
Drove to recycling at back of Tides. Won't take cardboard. Sorted out paper from cardboard and drove cardboard home.
No parking spaces near home for me to use residents permit. Parked somewhere in Walmer with car full of cardboard and recycling boxes.
Walked home. Wrote post-it to remind me where I parked car. Banged head on wall again.

So in an effort to rationalise routes to cut costs etc DDC & their contractors have ended up spending a pot load of extra money to carry out extra collections because of their incredibly p**s poor organisational skills and have as an added bonus hacked off a good proportion of their residents.
Cracking job all round

Our day is still Thursday but refuse and recycling were swapped, last week went fine but the food bin was not emptied until this morning as they forgot? on Thursday.
I feel sorry for the bin men, I bet they are having to put up with the complaints even though the many various missed collections that I have read about elsewhere are not their fault.

Does anyone know:-
(a) Who instigated the cost cutting exercise? Was it at the behest of DDC or Veolia?
(b) Who gave the final authorisation and based on what cost/benefit analysis?
(c) What was the intention as far as the putative cost savings were concerned? Would they be passed on to taxpayers or was there another more pressing need with DDC?
Mr. Aziz - you get paid a lot of taxpayer's money to do your job. You'll pass the buck I'm sure but the initial questions must start at your door.
I'm not holding my breath for an answer.

I believe it was an exercise to boost their green image.I had heard from someone who works on there that they had took 2 dustcarts of the road to reduce pollution but its been a complete F****p,the crews cannot get their rounds finished, hence the situation. Now having to send extra vehicles out to collect the waste to try and catch up so what was the point?

It hasn't worked since it was introduced
The staff having to work 3 extra Saturdays to catch up .now I'm being told more staff from London are coming down to help clear the backlog .
So that's a short term solution and didn't save much.
.nothing in place for the longer term

Nothing to do with savings. It’s more to do with not getting screwed for the same with a new contract.
