Sue, I don’t think it’s in the council’s power to resolve the situation without revisiting the waste contract and totally rewriting it, which will cost money. They need more trucks and more people to do the job properly. Or give Veolia the sack and re-tender the whole of waste services, perhaps combining the collection and disposal contracts. The present arrangement where Veolia collect the waste and Biffa dispose of it is ridiculous and leads to inefficiencies. Examples: Veolia trucks queue up at the Whitfield tip waiting to dump their load. Biffa weigh then in and out and send them a bill for disposal.
All plastic taken to the tip goes to landfill because Biffa won’t recycle it.

I’m not at liberty to say but I’m sure serious talks are going on.

While KCC are responsible for disposal and DDC collections that won't change.

The usual 'secret squirrels' while the taxpayer is left hoping for a hint of acceptable service.

If contracts are being negotiated it would.not be in the public domain .

So you're not a member of the public then, Sue? Or is there some quasi-privileged status that permits entry to the secrets squirrels drey?

110, No, Veolia have their own recycling arrangements, it’s only the landfill waste that gets taken to the tip.

Ok so we are even more in the dark as secret e mails are flying about .
In the present climate that just makes the situation even more of a joke more so when when an Ex clkr and yes ex is the word decides to announce shes holding secret info but doesn't want to share it .
Better to have said nothing

I don't think anyone is stirring anything, Sue. The point is that when a council run service fails as badly as DDC's has done, then it is in everyone best interests to share information with the tax payers as soon as it is sufficiently commercially safe and reliable to do so. That's essential to managing expectations.
If your director and cabinet members chums don't see this as their responsibilty then that's rather worrying.

People are rightly complaining about rubbish collections which is nothing short of shambolic but the DDC are also falling well short when it comes to grass cutting as well and not keeping to agreements.
