Our food bin was not collected yesterday so will sit there until it is.
I feel sorry for the hard working bin men as I bet they are being blamed for something that is not their fault, the blame lies with their bosses and the council.

Yes Jan
But it is at quite a high level this saga is being allowed to continue ...
Iv heard nothing from our elected cllrs .
Iv raised complaints with DDC each time (which is nearly every week since new 8 year contract was signed )
DDC at this moment in time has no solutions .
So expect this to go on across the District for some time to come .

Thursday's recycling is still outside, DeBurgh's (also Thursday) was collected this morning at about eight so there is still hope!

The bin men have been! Sadly the cockup remains as they were collecting refuse and not recycling. You couldn't make it up.
That's the second time they've confused which week it is.

I've just booked a slot at the tip. Sadly they don't take plastic so that will have to go in the refuse.

I know the other half can't get rid of the garden waste and is not best pleased because it's a paid for service.
As far the other collections are concerned, we changed from a Friday (which all went swimmingly) to a Thursday which has since been a colossal balls up. I just leave all the bins out on a Wednesday night and hope for the best.
As far as I can ascertain, my councillor does not feels that it lies within his remit to take up cudgels. I can't help feeling that it could be run better.

It's a point of view, but not one I share. I think I'm right to believe that the political side of DDC is Conservative-led. I'm not saying that another party would be any better but, hell's bells, I'll be giving them a chance come the next elections - and at all levels! Blooming Tories, wouldn't put them in charge of a deckchair if they can't even empty my bins.

I couldn't agree more. My councillor (DDC) has a history of misjudgment (IMHO) but always seems to be the Tory nomination on the basis that nobody else is prepared to do it. Always happy to pitch up as a teller on election day and solely motivated by their position in the local party. Party work fodder but otherwise utterly useless.

Things are looking up, last Thursday's recycling was collected yesterday and today's refuse was picked up this morning!
Well done!

I have had many discussions with councillors from both major parties ..
We have one Tory and one labour here and s Tory in the next ward to us.
Since the fiasco started some months ago o have been fobbed off with many answers , but none that look to resolve the problem .
Having made many official complaints and really got no where I'm wondering now is this an issue that isn't going to be resolved over the next 8, years contract ?
Iv even involved the conservative leader of the council .
At the start I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on a change of days and collections ,
But months on and the issue remains .
No other industry would you be expect to receive such a poor service .
I got a call from an employee who told me there just isn't enough lorries or staff to maintain a service and so the problem will go on .
Iv also had offices at other meetings stop me raising the issue when cllrs were present which I presume they didn't want any negative comments (,,even though the cllrs present had also highlighted the same issues earlier in the meeting !)
I do feel it's time for the elected councillors to step up, unelected officers are running the show at the mo, and not very well !
So with excuses of
Not enough lorry drivers
Not enough staff
Why give this company an eight year contract?
They have now broken the contract surely the company can be heavily fined which appears to be the only way they will listen .
The council itself can't pass the buck as at times they are trying to do.
My contract is with DDC not the private company
DDC Decided to use a private company to carry out this contract , it's up to DDC to make sure they do,at the moment , and for months this hasn't happened .
I know my name's mud up at DDC but I'm not letting go, this needs sorting out and now!

Interesting comments, Keith. Does anyone know how we compare in this matter with other councils? I'm told that Thanet DC have similar problems but they do not appear to be of the same magnitude as here in Dover.
If this is purely a temporary resourcing issue, then surely other areas will be similary blighted? It does appear that DDC have nade rather more of a pig's ears of this than our neighbours.
I'd be happy to be proved wrong. That might provide at least a little more understanding.

I agree with Keith .Why an eight year contract? .I is common sense that less vehicles and therefore less refuse collectors they were never going to catch up.I don’t wish to see people in flats and houses with small gardens not having their general waste left to rot but on the other hand why make people with garden waste being left out for weeks I.Yes take it to the tip if you have a car .On the other hand they are saying we must save the planet especially our MP and here we are encouraging people to visit the tip.How Many extra cars are there going up to the tip ..Creating air polution. You could not make it up .Little old ladies like me carefully washing plastic and bottles,Ensuring they go in the right bin.Stacking the newspapers and crushing card board ,only to find you have to go and take in one. Bin in and another one a few days later .
You could not make it up .I heard from my Councillor he says they are working on it.There is only one answer .Get the bosses of Veolia in and thump the table .The Leader and Cabinet member.I had to do that some times on housing.Thats the only way .Show them you mean business,
It’s no good putting out endless press releases telling us about grandeur schemes yet to come .How wonderful the Market Square and the Discovery Centre will look.
Most people if they have Gardens keep them tidy carefully put waste into the green sacks .Keep their bins clean by carefully washing bottles etc and at the end of the day this I very important to people .
Get back to basics .

Oh yes Sue! I well remember East Kent Housing having a regular roasting when I was on Scrutiny and we all know how well that worked out?

You are correct re East Kent Housing .If you recall I was dismissed from the Cabinet and had very little to with them.Vice Chairman and Chairman in my book non political .I refer to the days when Housing was in House and Officers listened to the Cabinet members .Still in the past .Someone in DDC needs to get to grips with the refuse problems .Currently a lot of rubbish spouted .

So what do we have here, then?
Two former councillors of the same political hue who appear to be agreeing with what the man in the High Street has been saying for some time - viz that our district council is run by a bunch of w***ers?

Yes we are former Councillors .Just trying to say that our current Councillors need a little more back bone .
