Exactly the point, Roger. There is no justification, but we are owed an answer.

The trouble is though Bern, that although Sheila has given her "reason" for not voting for Lord Boyce, it is her view and opinion and she is allowed that.
The fact that we (or at least the vast majority who have posted on it) think otherwise, is neither here nor there really.
We can't remove people because they have a different view to us (although there must be many cases when we'd really want to), but hope that they would at least see the bigger picture and the consequence of their actions.
It is also a vote against Dover and they don't/can't see that.
"What have the Romans ever done for us" seems to be their chant.
Maybe if they had thought what will this honour bring to Dover as well, they surely would have all voted for him ? Or maybe not.
Roger
She is indeed entitled to her opinion. But I thought she represented Dover and was supposed to work for the good of the place? I wonder how she would be able to say her decision (based on "her" views) did that? As you say, Roger, entitled to views, but not to use them to the disadvantage of Dover.

Every one is allowed an opinion Brian, whether I agree with it or not is another matter altogether - and whether it is good for Dover (or not) is also another matter.
If people were able to see the bigger picture and perhaps think on their feet, we may have made/may make, some progress, but with a narrow view, we won't go far.
Roger
This has hit the letters page of the Telegraph as well - I will try to find the link, but the letter points out the snub Dover has given to Lord Boyce. Well done Dover.
And we are still waiting for some response from the other councillors, as I am sure you will have noticed.

As I posted on the Eurovision thread -
"On 25 February 2009, Leicester City Council announced that Humperdinck would be given the Honorary Freedom of Leicester alongside author Sue Townsend and former professional footballer Alan Birchenall."

I'm afraid your breath will have to remain bated Bern. I can't see any one else giving a considered, intelligent reply as to why they didn't vote for him.
Roger
Can't we demand one? I thought they were our representatives?

the whole thing seems to be dying down, unless i missed it the express did not give a breakdown of the vote.
doubtless the decision will be reversed at the next full town council.
But those people represent us!!! It really seems such a small thing but just identifies how poorly we are represented. Missed opportunities, political in-fighting and an almost complete absence of skill and vision - characteristics evidenced by this farce.

Bern I dont understand all this Political in fighting,I dont see at the Town Council,in fact the voting for and against seems to have been cross party. All the Town Councillors who risk coming on Dover Forum have said how they voted,Chris Sheila myself Jan missed the meeting and Stewart has gone quiet.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
And I respect that. but the others have yet to explain, and given that they represent us I think it would be courteous of them to do so. And if I am told they do not look at DF I would ask why not? It is an influential organ of public opinion for Dover. It would seem to be the least they could do.
This episode seems trivial relatively, but it sums up for me what is worst about our "leadership" delivered by our "public servants". And it has attracted national coverage. Vic was villified when he attracted national coverage with a mistake that dropped out of good intentions - this was not a mistake, it was poor judgement and ineptitude.
