Bern, all such matters should be addressed to the Town Clerk, Alison Burton. Suggest you ask for an email copy of the minutes of the meeting as DTC seems to have 'forgotten' to put them on the website.

It's possible the minutes won't be published until they've been accepted as a correct record at the next meeting.

Howard, they don't have to be on the website to be 'published', it means they have been made available to the public and that can mean putting them up on a notice board or even just having them available to a member of the public who asks to see them.

They have all the minutes there Howard. There is a statement on the website that all minutes are to be published on the website in draft form ASAP and confirmed when approved at the next meeting.

Ken as far as I know it has nothing to do with Politics or a Labour dominated Town Council,as I said I voted for Lord Boyce there was not any discussion on the matter apart from the Sub Committee who look at the nominations and I am not on that committee.
I said that I do not look at who votes for what,I look straight ahead and vote on my feelings, but I do believe some Labour Cllrs voted for and some agains as did the others.
There were only 13 Cllrs in the Chambers and 12 were needed to vote and 2/3 rd of the Council had to vote in favour of the freeman ie) 12 of the 18.

Within minutes of my posting I received a text from a standing Town councillor totally dissassociating themselves from the decision, I also met two previous Town ccouncillors whilst in the town who were appalled by the decision and suggested that DTC should be disbaanded but not before those seemingly few councillors who made the decision were bought to account for bringing shame upon the Town.
Lets not forget the other two failed nominees both worthy of the honour. If it were not for ex cllr Young there would be no DTC or any other Town council for that matter, for it was she who fought long and hard to re establish Town councils after they were abolished in the early 70's and replaced with charter trustees i.e. councillors who were elected as District councillors were I believe automatically Charter Trustees to promote and preserve the civic and cer.
emonial aspects for the Town.
Dick Leggit has for many many years ensured that the Rememberance Parade and other parades are conducted with all due ceremony as well as promoting the navy as befits a port.
May I suggest we return to the days of the Charter Trustees and in the process save the taxpayers what I believe is in excess of half a million pounds a year. When I was a Town councillor Keith Sansum would on many occassions ask me to justify the expenditure of the Town council, I couldn't then and I can't now except perhaps prior to the arrival of the Independants on the Council it was a good way to promote the Labour party in the eyes of the electorate(all18 councillors were Labour and until then were all elected unaopposed).

Ken when you were a member, did you promote the Town or the Labour Party? Or is because you are no longer a Town Cllr and member of the Labour Party you have sudden memory lose!
When I first stood for Town Council I was the only nomination for the old Barton Ward,no one else could be bothered.Since then I have fought 2 elections at Town Council and was elected,as were 12 Labour Party and 6 others. We work well together cross party. In fact I have just had an e-mail from Pat Sherrerd supporting my stand on this and making a few suggestions, which also has my support.
Being a District Councillor and a Town Council, although 2 totally different Councils with different responsibilitie although more recently finding that they converge on somethings like Toilets,Green Spaces I can say that the Town Council penny for penny does more for the Town than the District. The District has a much bigger funding and of course has a much bigger area.
I would say that the Town Council now is totally different from when I left 6 years ago, when I believe it was driven by some people who thought that the Town owed them, now the Town Council although with still some way to go admittedly is much closer to the public,is much more pro active and hands on.
No Council would justify the amount of money it spends, but that is the way the Country is governed,do the Mp's justify the millions of £'s that they spend proberly not.Sorry Ken although we agree on the Lord Wrden it appears to me that it is a case of sour grapes after you stood and failed to get elected. Is it a case of if I cant play I am going to take my ball home!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

By the way the 2 ex Town Cllrs were they Cllrs last year and if they were why didnt they nominate the Lord Warden! As I said I agree with Dick Liggett but I disagree with newly retired Cllrs and Mp's coming out and then being made freeman or Lords. I think it is morally wrong how Mp's are promised Lordships when they retire giving them a pay packet for life at our expence.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Can we cut through this crap and stick to the point? Some elected/funded local reps missed an opportunity and risked causing offence to a good man (among others) and have failed yet to account for themselves or give us an explanation publicly. It seems it might have been because of idiocy and point scoring - without an explanation we can't know for sure but there seem few other reasons.
We are waiting.

I think you will have a long wait Bern. Out of the 18 councillors only 3 tend to post here on a regular basis and they have already posted.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I have emailed Alison Burton who Peter indicated was the point of contact and look forward to her reply..
