They cordon off areas similar to they did last night with their baton charges .Lines of special constabs and pcso's. Hey I haven't got the answers but anything is better than doing nothing or trying to out fight the yobs. Even the Home Secretary said that if the kids are minded to rampage, loot etc there is nothing the out numbered police could do.

With the current 'mood' curfews would probably do nothing but inflame the situation and be seen as provocation. The solution probably needs to be more subtle and involve disrupting the messaging systems being used to direct so-called rioters to their target areas. Or, of course, we could start shooting and send the whole situation so far over the top the country would take years to recover.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

It is rather odd, this overweening desire to preserve/conserve 'things' and yet condemn people out of hand.

Dis-abling communication systems wont work and could seriosly interfere with co-ordinating emergency services plus preventing housebound residents in need of urgent advice, help or comforting not mention the everyday need of ambulances for stroke, heart attacks non street violence injuries and ill health patients.

i see that darcus howe gets a mention, i saw him interviewed earlier, yet another unpleasant rant.
the man is a racist of the worst kind and is already trying to turn events into a noble revolution, he even made references to the arab spring.
he needs to be locked up before he can spread any more poison.

How must this look to our Troops abroad? Are they seriously spilling their blood for these ungrateful selfish idiots? These people should be ashamed to call themselves British.
And please no more comments about not enough Police no here and what they can and cant do. It is so infuriating to read. I have friends in the Met who are still at work now, not been home in days. They are exhausted. Dont forget only a certain amount of officers are public order trained. Have you seen the photos of Police holding shields with no riot gear on. What if a petrol bomb hit them? Some may say reckless behaviour but they would get moaned at if they didn't. Police will never win the publics favour as people are so quick to criticise. Give them a sheild and Human Rights handbook and we'll see if they can be as brave.
You say cuts have not happened yet but you have no idea what has been happening internally for te past year. They have been expected to do the same job under such immense pressure. With no recruitment there is a huge shortfall in Officers on the ground. I for one think they are very brave and doing the best they can. Don't forget they may be standing in a line watching some of the action but you neglect to mention that this is also a huge evidence gathering exercise. Justice will come to those who deserve it by a rude early morning knock on their doors one day not so long from now.
Lets get behind those who are making an effort to carry on and clean up their neighbourhood. That is a true British person 'keep calm and carry on'. I know some of you have the attitude in Dover and it is great to see else where.

I think curfews is one of many options that should be considered
to have known looters etc in places where they know they can contain and watch them and distrupt there lives is worth considering
whilst the cut in police numbers has been hightlighted so many times we should applaud the police who do a difficult job.
a quicky on pcso's marek, they are unable to be used in the way you indicate in your post.
whilst no one can agree with the mindless violence/looting and those taking part in it should be brought to justice, as has been said with prisons full that route is difficult to take, maybe clearing up the mess they have created would help.
We should also look at the under current of concerns, when you have high unemployment, no prospect of a job, poor living conditions etc.
this does create a them and us situation, and although the police have worked hard with the communities even the police spokesman said yesterday they should have done a lot more in regard to the original shooting, the family, and the situation around that incident, but hopefully that can be learnt from.
howard;
yes of course bringing police in from other areas will only make the areas they come from less safe im sure even the police would agree with you.
Let's hope the situation does get under control very very soon, and the positive clean up groups work to get things going in a more positive way, showing those that commit crime its not the way forward

Helen are those ungrateful, selfish idiots those rioting and looting in the streets or those that have led by 'nose in trough' example sitting in Parliament or in the big corporations. This Plebeian revolt has had plenty of aspirational leadership from those at the top.

What we all have to recognise is we are in crisis
and this is just another example of people feeling let down, frustrated, no hope for the future.
But hopefully we can all come through this and the communities clearing up at least show a way forward

Darcus Howe once fronted a TV programme about Dover made in the 90's when the asylum seeker issue first kicked off. He slagged Dover off something rotten and called us all racists as he saw no problem in Dover at all. This was a time when East Cliff and Folkestone Road were becoming ghettos.
That is a man with a chip on both shoulders who has made a career out of racism.

yes alex he is a quite repulsive individual, he was given a series on the box at peak time just so that he could slag off white people.

Our society is now what it is Alec, the institution of out moded proto Thatcherite policies will just add fuel to the fires of inequality in our communities.

catch 22 now masses of extra police on the streets of london tonight, all cells fully booked though.
any miscreants will have to be taken out of london to where there is alternative accommodation, thus taking more officers off of the streets.

Blame the government and society all you want. At the end of the day these are not poverty stricken parents who are looting to feed and dress their children. These are youths, rebels without a cause who probably don't even know the Prime Ministers name. You don't see them dressed in rags before they enter the shops to steal. These are kids with parents. Discipline and morals start at home no matter what society you live in. I did not have a great financial upbringing for a good few years as a child but I never sought violence or stealing as a way to deal with it. I know it's wrong to riot and steal, everyone does. When asked why he was stealing on TV one answered 'to get my taxes back'. The same taxes that are now payig to clean up the mess he made. These youths need to be sent to a real oppressed and poverty stricken society to show them just how good we have it in this country.
