I watched it on Sky until one this morning, horrendous scenes. All started by people protesting over the shooting of a male on Thursday by Police, the protest was obviously taken over by the criminal element who saw the chance to attack the Police and burn and loot properties, a sad day.

Passenger in mini-cab shot by Police, one officer 'saved' as bullet strikes him in the radio. IPC immediately called in, street closed for to days. 'Group' attend front of Police Station, demand answers, answers came there none, night falls...

I'll have to get out and about and talk with my neighbours to learn more.
Local MP did ask for calm on Friday, I think. MP by the name of 'Lammy'...or is it 'Lame'?

As far as I can see (and as I was not there is it speculation) the cops asked a guy to put his gun down, twice, he didn't, shot a copper and was shot. Job done.

I have a friend who lives there she said it was absolutely horrendous. It began with people lying in the road outside the police station, stopping all the traffic. Cars were being petrol bombed and shops being looted. They put the lights out and literally hid in their house. Thankfully she and her children are safe. There are still some fires burning this morning but it has calmed down a lot. Let's hope it stays that way.
Ah now i understand thankyou. yes bern sounds like that started it very stange for it to get to this terrible state tho .

What amazes me is that no leading politician has yet addressed the situation on camera. Cameron is in a cosy cafe in Italy and Osborne is bumming it in Beverly Hills.
Leadership?

I suspect that, like most riots, some people there were angry and the rest were opportunistic.

Addressed what Marek?
This is an issue of trust. Trust between the State and a Community, as I said one MP did call for calm in front of a camera. A really dumb thing to do if you are not also out and about talking with the people. Having Dave or George or...
The sentence is too ludicrous to finish, even. Perhaps young William H with his cap on back to front?

Address and calm the situation. Reassure residents. Announce what action if any they intend to take. Examine the root causes. Do something rather than appear to be ignoring it.

all sounds rather preplanned, cash machines have been ripped out of walls.
not something that can be done on the spur of the moment.
And that would explain, in part, the delay between the alleged cause and the effect.

Its a matter for the police to deal with Marek. They need to catch the criminals responsible. What is sick are those politicians trying to cash in on what was clearly a matter of mere criminality. Sometimes it is best for politicians to say nothing and do nothing.

all the shops containing valuable and easy to carry items were targeted.

Ah, the big question: Is it Intergalactic Irony or mere Cosmic Humour? That there can be no Gentry lest there be also Peasantry. Oh, how we British have struggled with this over the centuries; "The rich man in his castle...",* "I know my place..." etc.
Might it be useful to ask, What is Law, What is Lawlessness, then again perhaps not.
The self-application of blinkers is the most common response across the spectrum and if something untoward intrude into ones line of sight...How dare it?!!!
Do we think ahead and buy shares in a wall/barrier manufacturer and sit back and wait for the (inevitable) Tory landslide?

Yobs and idiots taking advantage to rob and cause as much trouble as they can a little like those that did the same during the student demos.

Have we not had a quite conservative parliament over the last twenty years or so John?

It was quite right of David Lammy the MP for that area to ask for calm whilst the IPC investigate the incident on Thursday.
Teresa May MP (Home Sec) has also now made a similar statement and also condemned the violence and theft etc.
As often happens a peaceful protest seeking assurances/answers regarding the shooting incident on Thursday, was highjacked by criminal and anarchist elements who saw it as an opportunity to attack the police and/or loot etc.
