Peter & Neil.
Congratulations on the vote, 5244 is impressive and as I said before good luck.
Can I ask a question, without starting all the furore again, your explanation of the voting is a bit confusing, to me anyway.
You stated "People who oppose both DHB's plans and the Peoples Port should therefore have voted NO".
Does that mean people who voted yes were voting yes to both DHB & PP proposals?

No Gary; it was a two-part question- do you a) oppose the DHB proposal AND b) support the community bid? And is the operative word. If your answer is Yes to both parts, vote Yes. If your answer is no to either or both parts, vote No. So those who want Dover to remain a trust port would answer Yes to the first part but no to the second, thus the vote is No. Likewise those who want it to be privatised would answer no to both parts.
Sorry if it sounds a little complicated.

Thanks Peter.
Got it, though does sound complicated.
A simple "yes" or "no" to PP would have been better for the simple minded like me, I think. lol

The problem is that there are some who want it to remain a trust port. Only a yes/no answer is permitted under the rules so we had to come up with a form of words to cater for everyone. We would have preferred to say Do you want a) trust port status b) full privatisation or c) the community option? But we couldn't.

Peter again you are twisting the wording round to suit your way,I am alfor keeping it a Royal Charter Trust port, and if any of the voters had wish that also then they should have voted no.
The wording was very miss leading and that is why it was done that way,as you well know.

Yes Vic they should have voted No if they wanted to keep it a trust port. So should you. And no there has been no twisting of words from my side.
Abstaining or deliberately spoiling the ballot paper is pointless. If people were against the Peoples Port for any reason they should have voted No.

Well arrange a parish referendum in River then, Vic. You have seen how it's done.

No I can not do that ,members of the public of River can but not me.but I do not think there is a need for that ,once again I am not the council only one member of it.But I would hope if it is aske for, that the wording would be alot more fair that the one done in the town. Also that a open meeting would be held in the parish like there was in the town and members of the parish could have their say.

Yes you can. Being a parish councillor does not remove your rights as an elector in your parish. You need a petition with six names to call a parish meeting to debate a motion to requisition a referendum. Then at the meeting you need ten electors to vote in favour and it shall be done.

Vic, when you get back from the football, as you have repeated (over and over and over again) that you feel the wording on the referendum was all wrong. How would you word a referendum on the port, remembering that it has to be a yes or no answer?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

vic
you have continually maintained that it was wrong for voting to be confined to dover town.
yet you seem disinterested in having a poll/referendum in the outpost of river.

That is because the answer would be the same.
