23:0894077So leave the port as it is, ignoring the town and at odds with the ferry operators who provide its income? How is this a forward thinking idea? DHB are determined to sell off the port and have applied for a Harbour Revision Order to allow them to do so which means it is up to the people of Dover see that the money is used for them, rather than for the DHB board. So far I see three options on the table, 1. the Peoples Port, 2. DHB's flog it off to the highest bidder and wave goodbye with a healthy bonus, or 3. say "don't want it" loudly and repeatedly while shutting your eyes to any other option.
Round one to you Vic? More like time out to get over the boredom factor.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

08:3494096Blimey, nothing like working together is there? And this is nothing like working together.......
Vic, apart from demonstrating your tendency towards personal foot shooting I don't know what you hope to achieve by this. You have won nothing other than derision, and shown us all how poorly you work in partnership. Handy with elections coming up.
Peter - admirable restraint. I shall follow suit!!

18:1794168The Dover Mercury, front page headlines, confirms that Charlie is making believe that there are only two options regards Dover Port: either the DHB plan goes through for privatisation, or Charlie's 'people's port' plan must go through!
Charlie & Co. always make believe - again in the name of incorrect propaganda - that a foreign company would buy the Port of Dover, so as to impress people into opting for his plan.
In reality, it is not true that the DHB plan and Charlie's 'people's port' plan are the only two options. If this had been the case, I daresay I would have been informed from London, telling me that the public consultation on the DHB plan is over and that instead it is either DHB privatisation or Charlie's privatisation plan.
Very incorrect on Charlie's part, and not in the name of correctly informing the public!

18:2294170Alexander, I think the assumption is if you look at the recent history of public utilities being sold off then it is likely to be a foreign company buying them

18:3194171that is true, but nobody knows where the money would come from to finance the people's port.

18:4894175The currently available info is here for those who can be bothered to look -
http://www.peoplesport.org.uk/our-bid/details-of-our-proposal.
For those who can't it states quite clearly that the aim is to raise funds from City of London institutions - I think that's a clear enough statement at this stage for anyone considering supporting it.

18:5294179Charlie has tried to make a mockery of public consultation and democracy: if he had been coherent to his election campaign, he'd have opposed the DHB privatisation plan, the democraticf way. He should have made any proposal of his own to the Secretary of State for Transport, following the guide-lines laid down by the Government for public consultaion on this matter.
Instead, not content with being a normal citizen, he's jumped the public consultation queue and has made a 'port-trust' of his own, and keeps trying to present it as 'the only option to DHB privatisation'.
So everyone who made a representation to the Secretary of State for Transport is just a fool, according to Charlie & Co.!

18:5894181There are many ways to move a project forward. Public consultation and democracy are not necessarily the same thing. And sometimes the experts actually do know best. Sometimes, throwing together some kind of analogy, it is as well to bear in mind that if you are going to join in a conversation you should learn the language first..............

19:0394183Bern, representations have been made to the Secretary of State for Transport concerning the future of Dover Port, as only the Government can make a decision on the status of the Port.
Charlie has made a port trust of his own, tried to sell it off in unconventional ways, and so-by attempted to trample down the public consultation tout simple!

19:1094184According to Mr Elphicke, he has made a bid of £200 million to buy the Port. The two main backers are Sir Patrick Sheehy and Algy Cluff.
Sir Patrick Sheehy Ex US Tobbacco Exec, Mining in Canada, with alleged links with Fidel Castro, Cuba? A man who wanted to turn the police force into a business and was involved in the "note and Folder" accusations with Kenneth Clarke.
Algy Cluff is a very successful Mining Magnate, with most of his mines in Africa.
How much of this money has come from Dover business or Dover People?
The source is from BarryW's "Must read article by Charlie Elphicke"
