19:1394358I'm sure if this was supported by a Dover Labour MP Jimmy, you would think it was the best thing since sliced bread.
I don't believe staying as DHB is, is an option, so once the decision to change the status has been made, it will be up to the Government to make their decision - whether to get more money from the DHB plan, or support their Big Society and Localism, which the People's Ports fits in with perfectly.

Believe me you could not be further from the truth!! One only has to look at the quality of our last labour MP, enough to drive one to distraction.
It is a simple logic If the port is valued at £500 million, and Charlie and his chums are offering £200 million, who pays the outstanding £300 million?? I think all tories are crooks, but even I can see why such crooks would turn down sweet Charlies pipe dream, and fast!!

23:1494392You get good and bad in all parties just look at those who ended in court with their expenses fiddles, they are crooks. If the port is to be sold I just want it to stay in British hands and not end up like so many other businesses under foreign control.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

00:4094397Peter, I still have not understood if Charlie's 'people's port' plan asks for 200 million or 400 million pounds. I was informed on the Forum months back that it is the latter figure, half of which would go to the Treasury.
Could you let us know if Dover Port would be indebited by 200 million or 400 million pounds according to Charlie's plan.

16:1194462the ten quid bit is largely irrelevant in money terms, my understanding is that it is purely to have a say and vote on issues.

16:3794465Well, as sure as hell we won't know unless we take a look and maybe a punt as well. I don't think I am prepared to miss an opportunity based on your "suspicions".

16:4494466At this time there has not been areal price put up for the port but we have been told "Beween £400million and up to £1Billion the £200+million is what our MP said would have to be found by way of a mortgage the rest will be found by your £10 shares but the most of the outstanding will come from the city and if you think you are going to have a say in running the port for £10 ----- that would not happen even if you put £10.000each down. All you can say is good bye to your money.

17:1394472This is the letter I wrote to the Queen on the 27th MAY 2010.
Her Majesty The Queen.
Buckingham Palace,
London. SW1A 1AA.
Your Majesty.
I have the honour to write to you today concerning the proposed sell-off of the Port of Dover, something to which I am fundamentally opposed,a belief which formed part of the manifesto I stood for parliament on the recent General Election as a UKIP candidate.
Ma,am the Port of Dover was granted a Royal Charter in 1606 as a reward for loyalty to the Crown as a Cinque Port;four hundred and four years later, the Port of Dover remains a highly profitable company which returns decent revenues to the British Exchequer each year, and at a time when every penny received into HM Treasury is important, this is not to be taken lightly.
At the recent General Election, every candidate that stood for election in the Dover constituency was united in opposition to the plan to sell off the Port oe Dover; given the likely asking price,it is extremely unlikely that any 100%British consortium could afford to buy it,and I feel most strongly that an asset that contributes to HM Government in terms of taxes raised should not be sold for a short-term cash windfall nor be allowed to fall into foreign ownership.
It is estimated that as many as 90%of people local to this areaare against the sale of the port;as much as almost anything else that could be imagined, the White Cliffs of Dover remain an iconic image of England herself and this must remain the case.
For the sale to go through, Royal Assent would be required; I ask you most humbly to refain from granting Royal Assent should the sale of the Port of Dover ever come before you.
I remain, Ma,am, your humble and obedient servant.
Victor Matcham.
