Simon Jones on BBC South East has just said he has heard rumblings that there is a possibility of a port sell off with opportunities for local people to participate.
He gave no further details but it might be that DHB have been rattled by the result and are coming up with a new scheme - anyone else hear that or know any more?

I think DHB have missed the boat (sorry about the pun). The Peoples Port is gathering momentum. For DHB to start suddenly embracing the Big Society would be embarrassing to watch.

Isn't it interesting that the two UKIP representatives on this forum are so blinkered

Yes Jan, I was just looking up election records 'cause I'm sure a 98% result in a properly conducted poll must be a record of some sort, and got diverted to when Nigel Farage was first elected as an MEP in 1999 - with UKIP getting 3.6% of the vote on a 23.4% turnout - oops

Nice one Ray but no it's not quite a record. Saddam was regularly re-elected with a 100% majority on a 100% turnout.
Suggest you consult the Guinness records people.

Barry, I wrote that Marek's post 754 is from another world, not Marek.
The post implies that 75% of people in Dover yesterday gave their permission to Mr. Epphicke MP and to unspecified citizens to do what they think is best for Dover.
Mr. Elphicke's mandate as MP is one thing, but the p/p trust did not get the backing of three quarters of the people in Dover.
That is the long and the short of it.

May-be you should realise that the p/p has proposed itself as the " Dover Community", and the poll results show that this is not so!

just trying to picture the scene on may 6th.
ukip led by vic are swept to power in dover district on a tide of popular support, the motorcade leaves the town hall and heads towards whitfield where vic will be crowned.
crowds line the route, melbourne avenue is lined with adoring faces throwing flowers at vic who is at the front in his bullet proof limousine.
upon arrival at the council offices the storm troopers drag out paulw and gordonc, vic then announces an immediate referendum on whether they should face the firing squad.
the big question now is what percentage of turn out would make the referendum valid.

HOWARD
Theres as much chance of UKIP being swept to power on may 6th as there is of my joining the tory party.
I am the only one brave enough to post on here my predictions on the seats to watch, which will change hands, and other predictions.
UKIP wont win any District council seats

should they stand in that election

On the referendum/poll
I disagree with vics/alexanders view, everyone knows im not a great supporter of either scheme, but that -said with
1; lack of answers
2; poor polling ti(for some)
then to get 25% out is not bad at all
it will be interesting to see now;
1;' What the govt does
2; what DHB does
3; if the p/port does get it's way if it as it says on the bottle

Keith,
One thing the government will do for sure is take absolutely no notice of Vic and Alex's incoherent rants
