We shouldn't get upset with each other about the Port, there are a number of factors involved that the Government has to take into consideration by law, before reaching a decision.
One of these is the law on carbon emissions, which, in my view, makes it unfeasable to accept the plan of DHB to build a T2 in order to accommoadte an increase of 100% over the next 30 years of heavy vehicle traffic passing through Dover Port.
The T2 to cater for the doubling of heavy goods vehicles is the reason given by DHB to ask for the Port to be privatised, and no other reason has been given by DHB.
I honestly cannot see the Ministry of Transport accepting this plan, as it would be against British law and contrary to legal obligations reached in Parliament on the reduction of carbon emissions.

a couple of points that i noted in the report.
agm's held every january, sounds like they are not expecting a quick decision.
half a million quid is the aim which i am told is about right to make a formal bid with all the legal costs, but they are unlikely to get that amount from the proposed mailshot.
my understanding of the article is that the people's port trust have not had any public donations so far.

55,000 people paying £10.00 each will bring in a tidy sum; it'll be very interesting to see how many join up and send in their £10.00s.

that is the total number being sent out roger, unlikely to get a 100% response.
probably next to nothing from businesses, your own experiences will tell you how difficult it is to seperate them from a small amount of money.

Howard - I am not sure why the January AGM date is in any way connected with any decision. You have to have a date and January is as good as any.
I don't think they expect all 55000 to pay £10, far from it. They have not asked for the public donations yet, that is why they have not had any. £500,000 you say, well it takes just 10% of those being mailed to produce that. That said any mailshot advertising campaign would regard 5% as a success and they are not stupid, they know those figures. The money need not all come from the public donations and all public donation will necessarily come from the mailshot. I will be sending in my £10 you can be sure of that.

To paraphrase the report it means is they will be sending out begging letters on March 1st.

...........The £10 is a one-off fee and will give members a stake in our port bid.
"These are not shares in the port but if our bid is successful, it will give people a say in how it operates."..................
I thought I better clarify, to me these are begging letters

however good the cause as they are after money, I hope they raise the amount needed.

55,000 at £.10 makes £.550, 000.
a 10% take up would rope in a mere £.55,000.
