I really think this is a very autocratic and surely a very questionable move.
This illustrates very clearly why I feel so strongly, and many others, regarding the running of the DHB and demise of our town by this particular regime....
It is very very sad day when this occurs.........
I feel most depressed........poor Dover................

I can't see the Government selling the Port of Dover, for economic and strategic reasons.
To privatise the Port would also have a negative impact on public opinion.
My view is that we will soon see a rail link to Western Docks, in particular because total dependancy on oil (petrol) for road transport would be a recipe for disaster.
I'm actually surprised the Government hasn't already started work on a rail link. Common sense would suggest this be a top national priority.

interesting point about a rail link alex but i do not see it happening.
as for privatising, opinion is divided at what that entails.
the neil/charlie/peter and pat port say that it is a community buy out and bob and chums claim the same.
from the little i understand the former offers long term investment in the town and the latter offers untold riches in the short term.
excuse me will i retreat to my bunker before vic logs on.

The Mayor is the Towns number citizen but also a member of the Public.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

The Mayor stood in for Cllr Cowan at the previous meeting as he was given 24 hours notice of the meeting and he was unable to attend as he had 3 meetings that day.

Dr Goldfield's message is quite clear: Sod the town of Dover and its citizens.

As usual, Bob Goldfield has not displayed any public relations finesse.
He is, however, quite right in saying that the Town Council can not contribute "in any meaningful way" to the DHB scheme for privatisation when they have opted to join the board of the Dover People's Port Trust.
What useful contribution can the Town Council be expected to make by turning up at a seminar to discuss one scheme when they have declared their support for a rival scheme?
My own experience of the Town Council was a public meeting at the Town Council offices a couple of years ago with BG and Charlie present. It was infuriating as an invisible council lady asked umpteen totally irrelevant questions and I was just screaming silently for somebody with a grasp of matters related to the port to ask the right questions.
If that is the standard of the contribution that the Town Council can make then they are just going to get in the way if they turn up for a seminar discussing a scheme they do not support. If the Mayor wants to turn up in all her finery, then Bob Goldfield would be well advised to keep her happy by sitting her in a corner with some tea and biscuits while he gets on with the business in hand.
Where abouts and what time is this meeting? please...
I am assuming members of the General Public can attend...

I am going to disagree with you all on this one,I get on very well with the Mayor and some of the Town council, but They have said in the open and to the press that they support the p/port ,so why(1) Do they want to go to that meeting,(2) What would they be saying to the public after it. On this one you can not have a foot in both camps. I think that the DHB should not have aske them along in the first place, then this would not have happen.

Any replies to this positive question.......please

It's by invitation only. Just for the great and good who are not tainted by association with the opposition (as they see it). I would love to see the list, it might give us a clue as to who they want to sell the port to.

The Town Council is for a port that brings prosperity to the Town Of Dover, and will listen to both sides of the coin,we have not aligned ourself as a group to one side or the other. We listen study watch what everyone does and is saying.
We will not just plump for one or the other just the one that will bring a benefit to the Town and because of that we or a Cllr will be available to attend both group meetings if asked. It may even be the same Cllr.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

The Ministry of Transport has not announced any decision to sell the Port of Dover.
In this context, there is no need to be upset.
Reason will prevail!
