The Port should belong to the Light Tower Church up above.
Dover Museum has an ancient script stating that king Lucius of the Britons collected port revenues and used them to maintain the Chapel in the Castle area, meaning the one with the Lighthouse.
There was an ecclesial college at this church, which is also confirmed in the acts of king Eadbold of Kent. This college could be reinstated and elected to distribute the Port incomes for Kent's prosperity.
Hopefully we are moving in this direction with the decision to invite the bishop of Dover.

Seems a slightly odd list of attendees - Girls School but not the Boys or K College or other Schools, only one of the Community Forums, CASE Kent presumably representing the voluntary sector of the town, Rotary but not Lions, no Chamber of Commerce, no Kent Constabulary, no Fire Service

Maybe they want to show the Government that they are involving as wide a part of the community as possible Ross - apart from those who have already allied themselves with The Peoples Port.
One of, if not the main criteria, is community based and this, it has to be said, is very community based; you may not agree with the sectors of the community that have been invited, but it certanly does involve them.
Will they pull the wool over the Government's eyes and get the O.K. ? who knows.

Hmm Ross- the list of attendees would appear to be lacking of any organisation or individual who has any kind of stance of dissent towards DHB's proposals. Apart from DTC who evidently had to shoehorn there way into the meeting. DHB are trying everything to pull the wool over the eyes of all the stakeholders, but they obviously are in denial about the massive tidal wave of support for DPPT. (fingers in the ears la la la la la la la la!). They cannot bury their head in the sand for much longer. I expect they'll be announcing the establishment of a donkey sanctuary next to try and bolster their flawed case for the future of the port...
Never give up...

It was clearly a big con trick. They certainly did not involve 'as wide a part of the community as possible' Roger - no local business representation at all.

Playing Devil's Advocate here, DHB have said at many meetings and in their publicity that any person or groups that wished to take part should contact them. Maybe those that did attend were the only ones that got in touch.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I'm surprised not to see the Lord Whisky animal sanctuary on the list.

How many similar meetings with the people of Dover has the Dover People's Port Trust held and who were the bodies invited to attend?

soz been away so long sky and broadband
another thread will explain,
on this thread, lets be fair both DHB And the peoples port have used the media for publicity purposes and publicity stunts so its not just one side.
on the question of g cowan attending like john says gor-don has made it clear he has concerns over the peoples port proposals and DHB thus happy to attend both meetings given enough notice.
the attendee's yes the harbour board could have done better and then also excluding the mayor was a tactical error.
on mr markham i think john has covered most of that, never acted in the interests of who selected him and elected him
and -formerly member of tory party which says a lot
anyway got to read all the threads so enough for now

#69, Ed, we are not a public body like DHB so do not have the resources to mount propaganda offensives such as last week's seminar by DHB. Our identities are not secret, we have a website and anyone seeking information can address any board member any time. Our financial backing, until such time as we receive the green light to take over the port, is purely the resources of the directors and a very few donors who are all local citizens. The answer to your question therefore is, apart from the town meeting called in March to discuss the referendum, none.

one thing is for sure, the cobbled together government are looking clueless over the issue.
seems to me that they do not understand the choices, if they did they would have chosen a winner.

They have rules to go by and get around Howard. It all looks so easy from the outside. Hopefully there will be movement soon and you can be sure that Charlie will be meeping up pressure where it counts, we did see that success a short time ago over the amendment to that Bill.

It would be a very sad day for Dover if DHB get there way, or indeed if nothing happens.
If we want Dover to move forward and to get the development it deserves we have to hope you are wrong Vic.
