Obviously someone is ultimately responsible, do we know who this person is? I am quite happy to write letters start a petition whatever it takes but this has got to be moved.
Any ideas? anyone ???
In one of Vic's posts he said "at least he is doing something" or words to that effect. I know that the intention was good but nobody in their right mind can possibly think this is good for the town or the seafront.
This bantering and foolish chatter (you know who I mean!) has to be turned into action now or we are going to be stuck with this for good.
How long will it be before the more adventurous of our Youth of Today get wind of it and a couple cans of spray paint later we are worse off than ever.
Come on guys, where do we start?

Up until now I have kept out of this debate but the last picture from Paul #99 shows just what an eyesore this kiosk is.
I thought the whole idea of all the money spent was to improve and upmarket the area, not have it turned into something tacky and decidedly down-market.
Maybe the kiosk needs moving to somewhere more appropriate where visitors enter the town by foot like the bus drop-off or train station, car drivers to and from the ferries will just drive past even if they see it.

Come on now, loosen up everybody-it's a kiosk-basic and functional-it's just the job for distributing tourist publicity material. At the end of the season you just move it away. What other design do you suggest-a Swiss Cottage?-an art deco dog kennel? Yes Richard Mahoney has spent a load of his own money on this and yes he promotes his own tour business in there. Everyone else could do too if they got up off their backs and did something about it. A certain 3600ton vessel will of course be featured-Vic of 7th cavalry fame, will give you some material on Tuesday. I applaud Richard for his caring efforts in making a difference with the promotion of Dover.
In the meantime if you want something better or different or want it moved(fair play), I imagine that you will have to put a similar amount of effort in as Richard-so you'll have your work cut out!

Richard, nothing you say alters the fact it's an eyesore and in the wrong place.

Pecisely Ray-so if all this leads to a top class facility in a universally approved position it will have served it's purpose. Dover deserves no less.

Been nice knowing you :)
Richard has to be congratulated for his enthusiasm to visitors with his boat and bus tours. As has already been said the cabin is a mechanism for these with the added ability to hand out tourist leaflets etc.
I personally feel it is the wrong location next to the swimmers sculptors and the recent Seachange funding to improve the promanade was to give a clean open seafront.
DHB have agreed (it is their land), however, a landowner agreement is not, I would think, give automatic permission to a building/cabin such as this in a prime location.
It is a "Portakabin" type building and I have just looked at the Portakabin website and amongst frequently asked questions are "Do I need Planning Permission" answer "Yes- unless the building is to be sited for less than 28 Days"
Sheli/Jan I hope this gives you some idea how to take forward.
As a temporary building to serve the object of Richards business and tourism to the town a possible less obtrusive location would be the seaside area past the pedestrian underpass which has run down buildings.. In this location as and when regeneration occurs a purpose build facility could be considered.
Both DDC and DTC are spending a great deal of money on the new VIC at the Museum site (far better for tourists) which may in fact reduce the requirement of the facility Richard has placed on the seafront.

Not on the seafront,

certainly where it is now, it is an eyesore. There are greeters at the cruise terminal and leaflets aplenty at the ferry booking hall so why is it needed anyway?
Not wanted, not needed, ugly. hey bonfire night isn't too far away is it

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Well I was working in there this morning I did get a few callers asking for eating outlets etc. I will let you know if we are going to move it or not .By the way Jacqui the Dover Greeters are helping out to,as I said before we are looking at moving it but we have not been told to move it ,if we do it will not be far from that point...Anyway Jacqui it is nice to see you back on the forum and puting over your views..Sue Nicholas plays no part in this.

Vic
Why do you keep making snide references to Sue Nicholas,

Sue only said the matter is being resolved not that she was the resolver.

I wonder why a suitably designed attractive kiosk which blends into the sea-front could not be put up.
We do need information kiosks but something which enhances and mirrors the look of the attractive sea-front.
