Really struggling here.
Calling someone names on a forum is is more offensive than blaming victims of persistent anti social behaviour for causing a problem by complaining.
They are victims for goodness sake not criminals.

Thankfully Iv never been in the position of those needing the soup kitchen, but recognise the need
Still hopefully in line with forum debate it would be nice to know who your debating with rather than hiding behind names, but that's another issue
Seems criticism is not allowed, even when you comply with the forum rules.
I want to see a solution to the problem of antisocial behaviour that is putting the Soup Kitchen at risk and has caused this situation in the first place.
You seem to want to blame everyone one for not accepting the problem being located or relocated on their doorstep.
Identities has nothing to do with that debate.

Identities does play some part,
but lets put that to one side.
If we take it that if someone complains in a ward wherever that may be, the soup kitchen will
never exist

You are fudging the issue.
DDC had to satisfy itself that the level of antisocial behaviour was sufficient to close the soup kitchen.
They would not have done that lightly (because of the bad press, which they ultimately got).
Moving it into another community without addressing the anti social behaviour problems is irresponsible.

It was probably irresponsible the way the decision was made, but that is ongoing andhopefully lessons will be learnt and a new site found

To be fair on those who complained who can blame them if there were problems with those who use the soup kitchen.
I know if they were near me I would have complained if there were problems and I am willing to bet so would the majority of this site's members.

Howard, Post #121. Porchlight still operate in Dover and have a facility at Fern Court on Leybourne Road. I saw some of their volunteers out in town and on the sea front on the 30th November.

Thanks for info Neil looks like they have just closed their town centre office. Very confusing as their website just throws up Canterbury if you type in Dover.

Deary me this isn't going well, its clear that some unsavoury characters were associated with the soup kitchen, it is perfectly understandable that people don't want a police supervised set-up outside their house every day.
The politicians (well, wannabes) on here talk of finding solutions while ignoring the views of residents. It seems they're just posturing as usual, keen to be seen as caring, sharing people whilst ignoring the problems. Police resources are limited, they don't have the manpower to supervise a soup kitchen on a daily basis, nor should they need to.
As usual its those in genuine need who miss out and the volunteers who get most frustrated as politicians squabble and pontificate.

Well I will continue to work with the volunteers from the soup kitchen, council, local residents, and all those that can help to make it happen

Is it within your ward or are you looking at locations within your ward?

There was a choice of starters followed by a meat/fish/vegetarian option, all served with fresh veg, creme brulee for afters.
Its a soup kitchen for heaven's sake, I've no idea why so many people are pretending to be concerned from the comfort of their armchairs.

For once David you write something I can agree with. The soup kitchen is run by volunteers. .Some of the volunteers pay for the food, which over a period of time does not come cheap. Does Christine think they were cooking meals from the port a cabin...I already said in an earlier posting the money collected from one of my Civic Services went to provide good at the soup kitchen.
