 - Totally agree with you Brian. The hunting with dogs ban is absurd and does no good for the countryside or the species its meant to protect.

 - lots of laws many dont agree with
so do we ignore them all?
pick those we want to abide by?

not sure who's the real face of the conservative party on this issue roger

 - I don't know either Keith.

The main point has to be that while a law is the law, then that law, whether we agree with it or not, must be upheld.

Lobbying for change is fine, but I would not encourage people to break the law.

We all know that the law is an ass, but that is an aside really.

 - How quickly does the blood lust thing raise its ugly head on disparate threads. Hunting for food? A necessity in some times and areas. Hunting and killing animals for sport? No excuses, this is simply blood lust. If it is the thrill of stalking animals then do it with a camera or if it is a liking for shooting things then go paint-balling (of course it means the quarry can shoot back and that might not appeal to those who prefer their prey helpless). A noble tradition? Bear baiting, female circumcision, human sacrifice, slavery, cock fighting, infanticide all come with centuries of tradition (but not fancy costumes and jolly drinking) so should they be preserved?

A fox will make a mess of a hen house if it gets in looking for food, more of which it can find in peoples rubbish, but then they will also eat rabbits which can damage whole crops. Feral cats can cause problems but they are dealt with by controlled spaying etc and not with red coats and packs of dogs.

The ban was a step in the right direction, although it was badly worded and enacted, for a civilised society. The constant raising of it is little more than a distraction from the countries and the laws real problems.

 - spot on chris, that is what most people think.

the argument about foxes raiding henhouses is a weak one, what about cats (mine included) that slaughter songbirds just for fun?

nature is nature, mankind(personkind) should have risen above using animals for sport.

we stopped laughing at freaks in circuses and the mentally ill in asylums yonks ago.

 - Chris - a fox 'makes a mess of a hen house' as you put it, for fun, they are one of the few animals that do kill for fun. You clearly have not seen a 'hen house' after a fox has got in there to speak so lightly of it. I have. But then hens are not as cuddly appearing as foxes....

 You mention blood lust.

I have no interest in fox hunting and never been to a hunt but I did go hare coursing as a child with my dad who bred and raced greyhounds.

I never did see any blood lust. I did see people watching and enjoying the run of the dogs and cheering on the dogs. Indeed I remember hares being cheered as well when they escaped after giving the dogs a particularly good run. One of which sped past me 6 feet away once. I suspect that fox hunting is the same and your emotive language has as much truth in reality as Dr Who.

 - Yes I have seen the mess left by a fox in a hen house, I have also seen trails of damage left by civilised 'hunts'. I have also worked in an abattoir so I am not unaware of the emotive responses to gore and entrails.

Sadly most of the traditions I listed still exist (along with so-called honour killing, forced child labour and many other long term practices that should have been eradicated generations ago) so should I be looking out for cybermen?

 - maybe it would be more humane for the master of the chipping norton hunt to set his hounds on dave keith?

much kinder than just shooting him and leaving him to run away and die in agony.
