 - Yes, Jan and that's why I believe that more Conservative Councillors will work better for the ward. Peter I'm sure would say the same about Labour Councillors, but we've not enjoyed that for quite a long time. I'm not going to talk ill of those passed away or current Councillors, but do believe that my first sentence above will work better.

I know Peter and I have spoken on a couple of issues and Marion (Munt), Keith and I used to work together on a number of issues, especially when the Priory Forum was (more) active.

We collectively meet officers at DDC to discuss what is happening from their position.

 - You've said it all Sue, Andrew chose a safe seat up at River and never showed any interest in Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory.

We all know why he switched parties.

Roger, at council level the party badge is largely irrelevant and we the voters expect our councillors to work together for the benefit of the ward. Incidentally Peter Wallace is not big on social media.

 - I explained Andrew came into poliics on a by election. He would work for the ward he was elected to.I dont interfere in other peoples wards unless im asked.TheRough sleeper issuie being an exception as it effects the District.
I do get people from St Rads asking for but that is because im on the bus.

 - There is another very personal issue that decided Andrew to withdraw from politics that I won't divulge, but it wasn't the view from his window. Don't forget that DDC councillors aren't just there to work for their ward, they are they to make decisions on matters that affect the whole district, and Andrew was and would be an excellent Cllr in that respect for any party.

 - Some wards have problems that require hands on councillors rather than high fliers. Social problems in the Priory part of the ward are constantly in need of addressing such as slum landlords, overcrowding, youths congregating late at night and fly tipping.

 - Found out earlier that out of the three red candidates only Peter Wallace lives in the ward so will only be using 2 of my 3 votes.

 - I've generally (there's always exceptions) felt it wrong that Councillors don't stand in a ward where they live. I would never consider standing anywhere other than Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory.

 - Re post 846, understand candidates live minutes away from the border of the ward. Because wards are often large, you can live there (as I do, and have done for 30 years) but still be a fair distance from many of your constituents. Knowledge of area is important

 - That is true Pam, but to much of the electorate, having someone live in the ward is very important to them, they don't like having people "dropped" into the area just because they represent a particular party.

Sadly, many people do vote for a party where-ever the candidate comes from, so long as he is a member of their party.

 - To broaden this out.I represent River and Alkham which includes Alkham.Alkham doesnt even join River .The far end of the ward stretches as far as Hawkinge.Ewell Minnis is also remote. You can see how flexible Councillors have to be.The Cricketers Crabble Avenue a long way from the residents on the fringe of Hawkinge.

 - I see the Town and Parish nominations are now published.A few surprises. So many Parishes will have to co opt.Why so little interest in their communities.Plenty go on Face Book and moan but not prepared to serve their community. If I was younger I would have stood for River Parish Council.

 - The reason so many do not "serve their community" could be they tend to see parish and local councils as almost a closed shop to outsiders. They seem to accept a rather small clique of known to them people.

The one time my husband wanted to join the local parish council the village hall doors were mysteriously jammed shut for that particular meeting and he could not get in, as there was no opposition another well known person was then co opted.
