Was wondering when and where the lists of candidates are for the forthcoming local elections can be found?

Final date for nominations is 9th April, some might announce themselves before then but won't be formally confirmed before that date.

Ray is right, 4.00 p.m. On 9/4/15 is when nominations ( at least for District, town and parish) must be in by at DDC. Nomination packs for those wanting to seek selection are available from DDC. Like Darren I will be interested to see who,is seeking election but a few weeks to wait.

The polling cards were delivered yesterday including one for my grandson who is now in Cambridge even though I notified the powers that be he was no longer living here.

I believe that UKIP selected their candidates a while back but have so far declined to go public with the names.

My ward (Tower Hamlets) is also interesting as to who will stand and who will not, so many rumours are flying around

John Goodwin won't be standing again in Tower Hamlets. In my ward all I know is that Roger and Peter Wallace will be standing, there is a rumour that Andrew Richardson will be standing for UKIP.

I just want to know who is standing in my ward for district and town council as am making sure I see or have from them a statement of what they are proposing to do :) I would like all the candidates to state 3-5 things that they are going to work on to improve the town/wards/people. For actual MP I am really fed up with all of them, even what I have seen from the non mainstream parties. Shame there isn't a box that says "No MP this time as no one worthy". Must admit the apathy is certainly out and about.

Darren, you might find prospective councillors are unwilling to do that because of
predetermination. The link shows the law is being reviewed and may well have been by this time, but it used to be a councillor couldn't speak or vote on an item that they had previously promoted, in order to prevent bias or even corruption.
Perhaps one of our district councillors could clarify the current situation.

I understand that pre-determination is really to do with Planning, which means that if you're on the Planning Committee, then you must not/cannot predetermine whether you will pass or refuse an application until you have head the full and uptodate facts at the Committee.

I thought they were allowed to as regards like MP's and party manifesto's. I know manifesto not the best thing to say as we all know that of the 1,000 promises made in them only 1 may happen and the rest dropped. But I think a good show of intent or where they think they will make things better will be the only way my vote is going to be won.
I wish the monster raving loony party was here as I remember one getting elected to council (Herts or round there I think, few years back and he had some very good ideas and already stated what he intended to fight for.

I never use up my council votes, I get 3 for district and 4 for town. The last couple of times I have voted for 2 in each, never go by party label and will not vote for somebody I know little about.

Looking at a list of candidates I start with those I would never vote for so I can ignore them, then choose those whose good reputation is known, I also ignore political parties in the locals.

I believe that there is a big difference in local and general elections., but many local electors are influenced by their thoughts on the Government.
I believe I have worked hard for local residents since being elected and the success of those concerns/problems presented to me, help show this.
When I was first elected, no one knew me though, I didn't haver any kind of political record, so from that point, it was a leap of faith for the electorate. I hope this happens this time round for the two candidates standing with me.
The Conservative candidates this year are all living in the ward, which I think is so very important as they know the area very well - its good and bad points and will want to resolve any negative issues.

There is certainly a big difference between local and national certainly, and as you stated it is a shame some local are influenced by national. I think there should be no real tie between national and local with the locals avoiding party influence. Wish the MPs had enough gumption to put local before national also but alas the old whip.

I believe every election candidate should live in their constituency or ward or possibly on the very edge that way they should hopefully then know first hand about its problems and needs, something an outsider can never really know.
