Oh Ray, you have my sympathy - poor you. Have you thought of moving
Seriously though, this is exactly what I meant - Matcham is making an ass of politics.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

JACQU
I fully undestand where your coming from and on a personal note dont think vic can represent the wards.
but that said it's down to the people of those areas to put up alternative candidates
and they didn't, so you can't blame vic for that.
some areas in the 7 seats were more organised and made sure our vic had to fight an election and as we know if vic is opposed he's unlikely to win.
so we shouldn't blame vic for voter apathy.
it will be interesting in those 4 parish councils over next 4 years

So Keith, you have finally recognised the existence of voter apathy!
Jacqui, you ought to realise that strategy can manifest itself in various ways.
May drawing closer, it is becoming more exciting. This is nothing for the faint-hearted!

i have always recognised voter apathy have never been unnopposed in elections and felt the better for it
stood deliberatly in a marginal ward rather than a safer seat.

Keith, voter apathy has nothing to do with being opposed: it means not being opposed!

Of course if the meetings conflict too much and Vic decides to resign from some the attendant publicity could require by-elections, costing the parishes. How will this help them?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

CHRIS
Surprized at your viewpoint, i don't think vic will resign having got the seats, and as you know you only have to attend a meeting each 6 months before the full council can make any decisions on whether or not that person can continue.
that said, vic cant in all honestly represent those 4 wards in a good way
but lets see,,,,,,

The equivalent of a part (quarter) time councillor is no good to anyone this situation is just plain daft and shows up a loophole in the whole system.

i o feel sorry for those 4 wards in a small way having an absent cllr
but they could have done something about it
no good moaning after the event
made me laugh when maggie was elected and at her worst everyone kept moaning and no one appeared to have voted for her, or thats what everyone was saying lol

Following on from your post Vic. Two or more of the parishes you will represent are in dispute about something. Who will you represent, in such a situation you would eventually have to side with one of them against the other.

Having attended the three Parish Councils where Vic has got in by apathy ,I can tell you Temple Ewell ,River ,and Lydden and if he should get in at Alkham are different .They are communities with their own identies. If he gets Alkham I shall have to listen to him twice over .
On reflection I wish I had stood for Temple Ewell as it is only a stroll through the park away .
Wonder if he will attend tomorrows Full Council .Whitfield is on the Agenda .

I hope they do Keith it will show that they are taking note at what happens at the parish meetings ,but even more than that, what is happing in their parish, and after all this is what it is all about.

That last comment assumes we don't already take an interest which is entirely wrong - I already go to at least half of my parish council meetings each year and I can tell you The Vicar of Dibley has got nothing on Lydden

Jan, forget the parish border disputes, the local militia will all be mustered under one banner once Vic is in. It's the Town wards now! Then the Cinque Ports.
Vic is moving from many directives.
A few precautions have been taken, though...
