Howard #137, so the news is that the fountain will reopen as was

Thats very good news then but the 6million dollar question is when? There are lots of cruise ships due in this month, 12 of them to be precise, including today and 29 of them throughout May and so on. Lets hope that at the very least the fountain will be sprouting forth in all its glory very soon.

things really have to going soon, i notice that horace is already out doing his bit in market square.

probably be shut down because the contractors put in the wrong type of water.then spend 3 weeks cleaning it only to put the wrong type of water back in it again.

Unfortunately it is capped and people will moan like mad !!
That's the biggest problem with DDC - the council tax rises were consistantly low meaning that it is cumulatively worsening position :(

we still have this grey area over many things like the toilets, fountain and bandstand wher it is not clear whether they come under town or district council.
i don't know whether the problem exists with deal and sandwich with the district council.

I don't think Deal and Sandwich are anything like the size of Dover Town Council....
Been nice knowing you :)

Sandwich have closed the toilets near the Guildhall and it's 20p a go in the ones on the quayside - they are well kept and attended but not open too many hours.

macari's cafe in pencester road has a sign in its window saying that they are part of the dover town council scheme but no-one knows about it.
i don't know of anyone that looks at things in cafe windows other than the menu.

Deal Town Council pay for the upkeep of Deal's toilets, Sandwich run the Quay after a jt. refurb with DDC. The Guildhall is currently supported by Sandwich.
Most of the villages pay for their toilets.

District Councils will continue to off-load their responsiblities toilets etc etc. With an East Kent Council we would not have
all this nonsense.

Surely the problem is that providing public toilets isn't one of the services that District Councils legally have to provide, so when money is short it's one of the things to go.
I don't see how an East Kent Council would change that situation, would need a change in the law . . . . . or a referendum

Exactly Ray - tourism, toilets, flowers - 'all nice to have' even in Reg's grand scheme of making hundreds of people unemployed....
Been nice knowing you :)

Our government is changing the law to make hundreds of thousands of people unemployed................
..........no carping heard then ?...........soon it will be millions unemployed......only ``6%``of the intended deficit cuts
have been made so far.............
# 153 .....`most`villages pay for their toilets.....how many villages pay for their toilets?
