It might be a great idea if they were to erect hoarding to cover up the giant telly. 100% improvement to the market square for a very low cost.

Absolutely disagree with this decision - events or not. Tourists love it.
I cannot see any real reason why any event should make it close; this is just a cop-out and should have been out for discussion.
It makes us look like we can't cope with having the fountain working and having people walk past: piss-poor if you ask me.

hands up all who think we will see it operating again.
best keep them in your pockets.
Can I speak!!! he he....
Nothing wrong with the fountain...and I will say why put such a thing in place if you cannot adminster it....This is common in Dover, very naughty as it is our money..
I want the spouting fountains.............everyone would have so much fun, you cannot ruin them with washing up liquid, they switch off easily...Try them out in
Folkestone.........by the Harbour..................

this subject will cause a lot of controversy in the town when people get to hear of it.
i do like the spouting ones that mr norman refers to but prefer ours overall.
visitors love being photographed in front of it with the castle as a backdrop.

It's a shame that people don't respect it, I am local but have seen it full of soap suds on quite a few occasions and it isn't cheap to repair

Been nice knowing you :)

i was told that it would not need repairing if different jets were used.
the extra cost of buying these jets would far outweigh the current cleaning costs when soap gets thrown in.

Other than the overdue work on the Pier what other special treatment had Deal had - point it out and I will go and find it !!!
It may come as a surprise to some but we are part of the Dover District and also pay our council tax

Been nice knowing you :)
Yes, my understanding is that, like the wrong sort of snow for the railways, the fountain has the wrong sort of arms. The difference being that the railways do not buy the snow, whereas our dear local leaders bought the fountain. As Barry W-S says so succinctly: D'uh!!

the problem can be resolved bern - the fountain that is.
it won't be though the death sentence was passed when the town council announced a review on its future.

Forgive my ignorance, but what has the fountain, which is owned by DDC, got to do with the Town Council ?
I can feel another email coming on.

i only wish i could remember the thread roger, but i started on with a link from a local paper where the town council outlined their plans for olympic year.
i clearly remember that "the future of the fountain would be discussed"!!
there is nothing much anyone can do with an inanimate object such as the fountain either than keeping it going or closing it down.
Exactly - what other choices are there to be made!?

If the council chucked a few litres of defoamer in the fountain (available from Delmaines for use in carpet cleaning machines) it would kill the suds.
