Among the rest of the population it may lead to increased demand.

As sometimes happens in gorgeous sunshine..Howards picture makes the boarded up fountain look better than it is. In reality it is supremely tatty...the colours are dull, the paint is peeling off, and the wood is broken in several places. Some of the cabinet ought to go down and take a look at it and in realistic terms suggest something.
I say what most people would say Im sure...give us the fountain back as is/was and stop with the shenanigans!
There is another AIDA cruise liner in today.Embarassing

If you look back at previous threads you will read that the fountain is to be refurbished .It was reported in the local press.
Meanwhile work has started on the new VIC .

kieth, there are two [2] hopes, bob hope and no hope.......ps,bob hope is now dead so what hope have we got.
paulb, point agreed, but to get the cabinet down there you would need more than a tatty fountain.

We all know the fountain is to be refurbished. The question is when is the completion date What will it look like What is being done now to make the area look less derilict.
The tourist season starts at Easter it only takes one or two reviews about a town saying how run down it is before future visitors don't even bother.

it may help if our sue diverted the funds saved from closing the public toilets and spent it on the flower tubs and fountain.
Let's cut to the chase. Lots of things are "going to be" done. The fact is it is great weather, we have tourists coming through and the place looks like a toilet. Oh yes, let's talk toilets..............

Brian may i politly suggest you study the budget book .Less money every year means less money to spend .We donot do winter planting .Planting will commence end of May .Perhaps a few of your chums could sponsor a few flowers?
Meanwhile here in leafy River we have Daffodils everywhere .Have any of you seen Russell Gardens this year ??
Not yet - and I wonder how many tourists will see it...?

sue,i am polightly saying that budget book needs to be put aside and an x amount of money put aside fpr winter planting as you put it,so far this month we have had two yes two cruise ships in port and with easter at the end the week dover looks dire.you [the ddc] have made savings and cut backs on the public toilets etc, surely some of that money could be used to brighten up a dour looking town.as for sponcering im sure the shops in the high street could donate say a £10 per shop or evan supply some to be planted.

so now we discover that there will be no new water feature, but that the fountain will be opened.
we were previously told that the fountain would be off all this year.

Russell Gardens are well established gardens and should look good at any time of the year with minimum upkeep.
The planters and flower beds could be planted with perennial evergreen shrubs that need little care and would look nice all year round. Less upkeep equals a healthier budget.

Let's face it- with most of the public lavatories closed, we shall need all the fountains and flower tubs we can get.
