Mr Matcham, you have obviously not looked at the plans or taken in anything that has been said on here, the pier will no longer exist so please stop saying it will reopen, it won't.

Wasting your breath Ray if basic comprehension is beyond someone you're probably better off talking to the cat.
It may be the end of the pier but not the end of the story as a lot of things are likely to come out in time and people held responsible for their actions.

The fact is that the pier will close for the DWDR project. It cannot reopen in the future because a) they are taking several hundred yards off the end and b) freighters will berth on both sides (according to DHB artists' impressions). There are artists impressions of a proposed short pier and a 'marina curve' to the east of the existing pier but DfT have confirmed to me that no firm plans exist.

Not one stone is being taken away All of what you are saying is just not true ,you are still up set because what happen two years ago best you all stop looking behind you and look forward to what will be great for Dover ,and stop making up storys just to show the D,H,B, in a bad light .I am glad along with a lot of other members of the public and shops, companys, etc ,and looking ahead at all the ex trade it will bring to the port and town.
The good thing to is it means that I do not have to post so much about it all, giving you and myself a rest from it.
And the members that do not like me will have less to talk about.

Time will tell Vic, but I doubt it will open to the general public for a very long time if ever.

Actually Jan, we don't need to wait for time to tell, the DHB drawings show (one does not even to be literate) what level of access may become available to Dovorians in the future.

Thank you for the latest updates Peter, Ray, Howard and Brian. You keep us informed on all the latest information re the POW pier so we know the facts.
For Matchams information - facts are things that are proven and true. Can you understand that Matcham? So please stop posting your stupid comments trying to tell us that these gentlemen are telling lies - THEY ARE NOT!!
You say you won't have to post so much now - we live in hope
Jan - I hope I haven't spoken out of turn because I like you and your comments but he does make me mad

Spot on Jacqui Neil and Peter are the best informed on this issue and we have to pay heed. The pier is now effectively gone leaving us and visitors to the town bereft of that bracing walk and more importantly young and disabled anglers will be outed.
The issue will be noted nationwide when the national media get to hear of this and there will be investigations centred on DHB and councillors that have reached this decision.

Sorry Neil, I didn't see your post before I posted. You are of course included in my list of people to trust who tell the truth.

Agree completely with your first paragraph, we get the facts not daydreams from Peter, Ray, Howard, Brian and last but by no means least Neil.
Jacqui, Vic makes us all want to blow our top at times with his inaccurate comments.

Not sure I deserve to be in that list with Neil and Peter who are the real experts, and I'm sure there is more to come out about this whole matter.

When I was a boxer many moons ago win or lose after the fight we would shake each others hand, say well done go up to the bar and buy each other a drink.I am not the winner of this bout but Dover is.I do not dislike any of you in the way you talk about me in fact feel sorry for you I do not even know you.
I have only a few years left in this world so like the port and Dover I look forward to what lies ahead and hope to still be around when all the work is done and the new shops and the new look port are done.I have never said I am a expert at anything just a member of the Dover public that loves the town where he has lived all his life apart from working and being in the army away ,but my home was still in Dover even then .
But will say my wife and myself do also love the highlands of Scotland and will be going back there soon.

Can't find the answer Sue but read elsewhere that the planning committee chairman Fred Scales done all he could to pressure the others into voting for the removal.

Every time Dover tries to pull itself out of the mire that consecutive town and district councils have placed the town in, it is pulled back by a few self-interested parties looking for short term gain, who are willing to drag the town back once more to a town of the lowest common denominator.
Yesterday was a very sad day for the future generations of Dovorians who will have to spend a lifetime trying to counteract the disastrous decisions of their forebears.
History will remember Dover's decision-makers of the class of 2015 as bodies that bequeathed the town a lifeboat full of holes, before riding off in to the sunset with the few who will profit from the drowning of the many.
Councillors, please do not say your decision was in people of Dover's name, the people of Dover sent you a very clear message through hundreds of official objections and other mediums that they did not want this development. Objections you chose to ignore.
Yesterday saw the last vestiges of any democracy in Dover draw its last breath.
A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.

Unfortunately your last sentence sums up what has happened.
One of the reasons why so many no longer bother to vote, the people show what they want, or in this case did not want, and get ignored by half a dozen or so councillors who have a modicum of local power.

Shocking abuse of power by both planning committees and if they think the matter is closed they could be in for a shock. No doubt freedom of information requests will go out meanwhile Keef has arranged a meeting with Cllr Rix for next Friday and we will see what comes out of it. I have copied him in on the "Good Councillor Guide" that Ray uploaded here.
