Strange happenings here the planning application has suddenly been reopened for comments and three businesses have thrown their weight behind the development. Interestingly the two businesses from Dover have posted almost identical statements almost as if they had been prepared by a third party!!!!

If that is the case I hope some of our other local businesses will also enter their views.
I noticed that some comments are not available as this is an important issue (as are all planning applications to someone) surely all comments should be visible.

Look in the documents box Jan that covers letters sent in. Strange how these local businesses have suddenly taken an interest, incidentally I was wrong in saying two were in Dover, in fact 2 in Folkestone and 1 in Ashford.

This is all starting to leave a very nasty taste in my mouth... why is Martello Building Consultancy's letter of support cc'd to Sharon Higgenbottam, Company Secretary of the Port of Dover? What strings are being pulled?
Have you noticed the repeated use of the word "minority" when referring to Objectors of the planning application and Dover Western Docks Revival. If they are so sure we, the objectors, are in the minority, why not let us have a Referendum on the proposed plan, like in any true democracy ?
A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.

I am new to this forum but have been following the trends. I worry about the way Dover harbour is going. I tend to agree with Howard. To me the DWDR seems like commercialism at it's worst. The DHB should learn a lesson from Ramsgate Port (a terrible waste of money and look what's left). Is this what we want for Dover? Ferry operators come and go regardless of what is provided. The existing Marina is quite adequate. Leisure boating has declined in recent years due mainly to recession and higher fuel costs. A new Marina would be for just a select minority. I don't believe this project will bring revival, leisure, recreational facilities, new skills or long term employment, do much for Dover's heritage or make vast improvements to traffic. The pier is listed and should not be molested and taken away from the public and people of Dover. All the DHB needs to do is some serious clearance and tidying of mess.

Welcome to the forum Patrick I saw your objection on the planning website, good to see so many Dover people standing up on this one - in the past DHB steamrollered through what they wanted. The pier was meant to be closed over a month ago but the backlash from the people has meant radical deployment of spin doctors to make us play ball. Not working so far as the planning application is still to be heard. Incidentally I was told by an industry insider about a year ago that the container terminal idea was just a vanity project and likely to be a financial disaster.
The plans then showed a marina going up the eastern side of the pier for about a third of the way so there wasn't much noise made about the proposal, since then they changed it all to the detriment of all.

Trouble is when something that was once great is taken away ruthlessly, what is then left for good ordinary people and who benefits from it in the end? Again the powers that be need to look at Port Ramsgate. In my view good luck to all the objectors.

Am I being thick here? How can you post online to say you are offline?
On this subject he shouldn't bother anyway in my opinion - just be more rubbish
Some very interesting points in previous posts today. Will be interesting to see the outcome.

I note that the application is not on this month's Planning Committee agenda yet again.

Needed or not Vic they are legally bound to take them on, you comply with the laws of this land so why shouldn't DHB?
