Also one does not have to be a member of DPPT to be in support of their goals.

You mean just take notice of what one person is saying - as usual Vic is right and anyone who disagrees is wrong.

That made me laugh as it is from someone who is one of the "few".

This is all about ego, thankfully most Dover residents care about the future of the town and the assets here that can be passed down.

Well said Howard - you hit the nail right on the head.
I reckon Mr M has lost the plot!

Pier was closed today as the sign said for tidal survey work, saw the DHB crane along there with a platform suspended over the side of the pier with someone in it.Looked like they had gas cutting equipment possibly cutting a small hole for whatever reason. This was taking place on the first half of the pier.

One has to question why DHB needs a tidal survey from the pier. If they don't know the tidal movements in the harbour by now we all need to worry! More to the point, what are Dover Harbour board doing cutting into the metal work of the pier? I hope when they have finished that they put back the listed structure like for like. At this point as far as I know no permissions have been granted to undertake any non-restoration works to the POW pier.
A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.

Some interesting points there Nicola and ones that need to be answered.

I got a leaflet from DHB through the door yesterday and read the following which is interesting................
"What about Dover's Heritage?
We are as keen to look after Dover's heritage as you are. When we close the Prince of Wales Pier heritage items will be removed , restored and reused. And what's more, the future pier and adjacent marina will provide more than 1,000 metres of promenade and leisure area - that's 200 metres more than you get now!".............
The relevant part for me is there is no mention of pier access only more promenade which seems a clever fudging of what is actually planned, no or only a little access to the pier.

to make matters worse dhb are taking over the second half of the admitry pier with disabled access at the lighthouse end.one big draw back is the tidal run of 7 knots plus,i would like to see how it works out when cruise ships etc are moored up at the cruise terminal,

The spin doctors are earning their keep, smacks of desperation when they need to leaflet the town.

That was what I thought Howard, the whole of this glossy leaflet is pure spin.
It will obviously please those who are unable to read between the lines about what is the DHB proposed outcome regarding the Prince of Wales Pier, permanent closure to the general public with everything being moved to Admiralty Pier

To your point, Jan, has anyone else noticed the following wording of the DHB leaflet, it clearly states in bold print "THERE STILL BE ACCESS TO THE SEAFRONT AND THE PIERS DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD", it goes on to state not in bold "there will be some short term changes, the Prince of Wales pier will become part of the construction site and therefore access will no longer be available". Does that not mean that once construction commences only ONE pier will have public access, so why use the word 'PIERS' in bold, is this not misleading?
Please, please, please DHB stop trying to treat the people of Dover like utter fools. Since when is at least five years short term? Words like 'no longer available' are just patronising.
The people of Dover are not fools, we can see through your spin, there will be no reopening of the Prince of Wales pier, no new marina, no new shops or restaurants, just cranes, containers and bland industrial buildings, how can anyone call that regeneration?
This is not regeneration for the people of Dover, this is the last nail in the coffin of Dover's regeneration for a couple of generations to come, if this flawed plan is allowed to go ahead.
A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.

Not received my leaflet yet but for me the telling part is that the heritage items will be removed, restored and reused.
No mention of being reinstated.
