Forgive me if this has already been covered but I did enquire as to who received funding and how much they received, from this years round of community port funding?
Has a list been published, please?

Hi Gary, the published ones: Dover Music Festival (£10,000), Bechange (£7,500), Cinque Ports Community Kitchen (grant amount not disclosed), Dover Partnership Against Crime (£9,000).
Altogether 10 organisations have been awarded £71,000 according to press releases by the DHB.
Cinque Ports Community Kitchen has been highlighted twice in DHB press releases, but so far only 4 of the 10 beneficiaries have been publicly announced. I imagine a drip feed of announcements is deemed to have a greater, longer lasting positive PR impact as no complete list has been published.

Thanks Neil, I assume the Cinque Ports Community Kitchen is known locally as the soup kitchen or is this another organisation? Strange this donation amount has not been released it makes me wonder why.
I would like the Food Bank to have had the money as this would have been of benefit to those residents who are in need of help.

Nothing to do with the soup kitchen Jan they teach people on low incomes how to cook healthy inexpensive meals.

Hearing rumours the PoW pier closure has been shelved.

If true it would be a great victory for people power.

Its still open at the moment,we went down there today for a walk. There was so many people along there today enjoying the good weather, cant believe how the DHB wish to destroy it when most towns cherish their piers. Will be great to see a container port, what a tourist attraction that will be.The seafood stall was making preparations to move their stall half way along the prom near the slipway. They seem to know that something will happen soon so i doubt it will be long.I expect DHB will wait just a little longer till the good weather has gone knowing that not many people will be going to the seafront and then theyll shut it hoping it will soften the blow a little.

I shall be asking Mr Waggott for a meeting in the next couple of weeks. I want to get up to date before the DPPT AGM.

Sign on the pier today notifying of temporary closure on Mon 12th for surveying work.

I don't like the sound of this at all temporary can mean any length of time. Surveying was done back in August nothing has changed since then. Why would Sue move her stall unless she knows that the current footfall will be mostly nullified by the closure of the pier?

I think it's more than a few not happy Vic. That pier is such a lovely walk and when I could walk I spent many happy hours on it. We do very occasionally go out there in the car but we feel cars can spoil it for the walkers so we don't make a habit of it.
Will be a very sad day if they close it for good.

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

The second artist's impression down on this
DHB website page shows that only a small part of the PoW pier will still exist as a pier (just the curved bit at the end) and it will only be accessible through a working dock area so is unlikely to be open to the public.
