Hate to disagree with you Bern, but hasn't the council been shafting us for years? Higher council taxes, fewer services, and now having to pay for green refuse collections ...
I'm sure we could do a better job, and £10 is a bargain!

I was waiting for the camera to pan down so that we could see the white cat on his lap

Sorry Jim, I disagree - the Council are not shafting us on anything and Council tax has been kept to a minimum over many years, whilst maintaining a good level of services.
Dover District Council tax is the lowest in Kent I believe. Along with low tax, comes low(ish) services, but we have good services considering the money we get in. DDC is one of, if not the most efficient Councils in the County.
Most of people's grumbles about DDC is through lack of knowledge of what they actually do, or lack of understanding.

A DPP sheet was found this side of the letter box, with no envelope and no postage stamp.
It requests the payment of a tenner for ongoing administrative expenses and the purchase of postage stamps.
Even I could afford a postage stamp and an envelope to contact the Department for Transport without asking anyone for a tenner!
This might become a very controverisal post(age)

I received a sheet too - and damaged, so it could only be put together with sellotape.
I can imagine that 5,500 envelopes and people to stuff the envelopes would cost a bit of money, but still disappointed in a torn sheet of paper from an organisation that promises so much.

Sorry Peter, my mistake.
55,000 letters to be stuffed in 55,000 envelopes would be even more expensive.

I am away at sea so have not yet seen this form but is it not the same one that Peter linked to in post #157?
If so, the opportunity to acquire a share in the Peoples Port has presumably been available for yonks and I am a bit surprised that those expressing their enthusiasm for the project have waited until they get a begging letter before belatedly making a contribution.

Can't even get a mail shot right, running the biggest Port in Europe will be a lot harder!

If something is in an envelope then I open it, if it is a loose sheet then it is just 'filed' away as mail spam....
Been nice knowing you :)

Thats silly Martin. The condition the leaflet arrived in was down the the Royal Mail not DPPT.
DPPT simply do not have a lot of resources to spend on envelopes, stuffing etc.
I do find these silly digs rather pathetic.

Barry you find anything that you do not agree with silly, the condition they were in reflects the fact it was done on the cheap and envelopes were not used, that does not bode well as genuine contenders to run a multi million pound business, but no doubt that is silly as well!

have to agree there martin, presentation is all important boxes of brown envelopes are very cheap and volunteers can do the delivering.
Presentation matters but so does appropriate use of resources.

If the resources are not there for something as basic as some envelopes Bern then realistically the running of a multi million pound business is pie in the sky surely.

surely if the money was there for postage then it would have been better spent on envelopes?
have spoken to a few people that have not received their one, i suspect they have and dumped it along with the take away leaflets.
