I like this bit:
An industry insider said: "The announcement is likely to please supporters of the People's Port."

Big day tomorrow, Charlie and Clair have both pinned their colours to different masts, no doubt tomorrow they'll both be spinning away that they were right all along.
Above all else I hope Neil gets something out of all this, he's dedicated 5 years of his life and conducted himself with dignity and integrity, putting the town's interest first. Some have shamelessly jumped on his bandwagon, others have sniped from the sidelines.
Prepare yourself for some grandstanding tomorrow, I know Neil well and I've met Tim Waggott and George Jenkins, all three have the port's best interest at heart, im sure they'll act like the professionals they are. Lets hope whatever the outcome it's positive for us all, jobs and prosperity are at stake, not personal agendas.

The Minister will be in town from around 10am and the meeting that he's called is at the Marina Hotel.

It will be by being run by the D.H.B. within the rules of an updated Royal Charter that is the only way forward for the port and town your way or any other way could see the port sold over sea

I just hope there's a positive decision that comes out of this that is good for the town and port and we don't get a half-way house government fudge of their own making that leaves no-one locally happy.
In the meantime, mainly for Vic but anyone else can join in if they like, whose website is this taken from?

my guess is that it will stay as a trust port but with peoples port representation on the board. martin.

Ramsgate claims that honour. Not sure it's strictly true though. Dover was a royal harbour until 1606.

That would seem a compromise that may be acceptable to all ?

Almost any change must surely be an improvement on the present set up where the DHB seem to ignore the town's population and their requirements.

The key thing is that we remove it from the ambit of the Ports Act 1990 provisions for the flogging-off of trust ports. Otherwise it's vulnerable to being sold off any time.
