Until recently it was supposed to be Roger Walkden, but apparently he has stepped aside as Neil Rix wants to carry on after a successful first year. Previous Mayor Chris Precious also fancies another go and I understand that at least one other person will throw their hat in the ring.

Unfortunately the Snargate Street Mafia prefer T Dan Rix as he's one of their own.

I hope it is Chris who kept us informed what he was doing unlike Neil who has been the complete opposite, as an extra Chris only hit the headlines for the right reasons.

I feel sure that was just chocolate Reg, I have been in touch with the Pope about starting the gun to get sainthood for Neil but I quote the Holy Father in his words "Tell Stu not after bleeding Westmount"

Please can you tell me what the current Mayor has done to move Dover forward? The DTC collectively has coughed up a lot of money to buy properties derelict ones .So far a property in good condition which could have been sold on the open market. If he were to complain about the cardboard boxes in shop doorways ,got the puddles removed from the precinct ,,Windows cleaned etc I would say that was a start.I think some of the previous Mayors were Dover born and bred.Ronnie Philpot worked tirelesly so did Dianna Smallwood .Gordan Cowan a very good speaker.Pam Brivo had a very difficult time with the flag business but she does work hard in her Community.

Do we still need a mayor? Is it just ceremonial nowadays?

Well Sue he did manage to raise the profile of Dover into the national papers but I doubt many would say that was a good thing.

We certainly don't need a Mayor to move cardboard boxes, mop up puddles or clean windows. What a ridiculous statement.

Yes to both questions, Chris Precious carried out the role better than any previous incumbents in my opinion by accepting all invitations, visiting charities, voluntary organisations, start up businesses and the like and promoting them publicly. The present Mayor has lacked that touch and according to many he has concentrated his time on what he sees as bigger things and neglected the day to day visiting.

Reg/Howard.
thank you for your comments.
I understand why people stop posting on here just because we have our views on things which you do not like. The pair of you come back with gutter comments like this.

It's as I said to Neil when he lobbied me and he was of the opinion CP did nothing for Dover
I don't share that view.
Each Mayor has done things in there own way to promote Dover.
As Jan stated CP got positive publicity and didn't get negative worldwide publicity
It is a fact.
Hopefully all the cllrs will consider all the candidates carefully and not just put someone in place because they will win a vote
that may not be in Dover's interests.

To be honest, I think Neil has done more for this town than any other Mayor, it's all very well keeping a blog and everyone informed (as previous Mayor did) but I saw no improvement or heard of any. As far as I have heard if Precious is t
o become Mayor he will have "no trousers Wanstall" as Deputy and that is NOT something anyone with an ounce of respect will want!, As far as I know Mr Rix has kept his word and it would be good to see projects he has started come to fruition , makes sense to me...

I feel it should be Neil Rix. He sets an example; work for a living. Precious is most certainly not my choice nor that of many people I speak with. Lots of promises made, very little actual achievement except free drinks, taxi rides and unpaid baby sitters for his children. Most certainly, hackles were raised at Duke of York. One person who wants to wear the expensive chain is the Cllr who disrespected a memorial service. It appears he has never done a job either and wrote :" God created Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve". Cllr Brivio is very active in her ward and very experienced. But it should not be a case of the select few passing round the chain and the carte blanche to freebies. The Dover people should get a say.
