I thought that taxes usually went up with Labour via the back door.

not sure who the worst culprits are on stealth taxes.
one of the worst ones is the tax that small businesses pay on the property that they operate from, dover businesses are amongst the victims.
there always howls of anguish from whoever is not in power but our leaders know that the people who pay it only have one vote.

There needs to be a separation between the national Government and local Government, not just here in Dover, but throughout the country.
Locally the Conservatives have done very well - on just about everything: increased services, kept council tax low - don't forget that when Labour were last running the administration, they had made such a pigs-ear of things, they were going to put the council tax up by something like 8% for two years then 6% and for the election year it would have been I think, 3%. That's not stealth, that a big rise for 3 out of 4 years and they have already said - in Council Chamber, they would have a September budget and raise them this year.
They have shown their incompetance - in everything; the Conservatives have shown financial responsibility; forward thinking and kick-started the regeneration of Dover; knocking down, ready to build up.
As PaulW said a couple of weeks or so ago, there are developers waiting in the wings for the outcome of this election and if Labour get in, with their plans to cancel everying to do with development, we will stagnate for many years to come - is that what you really want ?
Dover can be World-Class - you just have to believe in it, if you don't, then it will remain a stagnant small town with no future; the choice is yours.

Roger I am sure you believe these things and it just goes to show how out of touch you are, your Tory Council have sold the Gold and Silver and the bronze and plastic are in the are being recycled.
Where are your people canvassing where are your leaflets,I spent 2 hours in Maxton yesterday and people were saying 'where are the rest we only see Labour'.
On the other things you say about a balanced budget you are wrong, how do the people of Maxton with all those steps feel about getting 3 Wheelie bins, who will decide which old disabled and blind people will not have to have wheelie bins, according to your Portfolio holder the bin men,yes your pals found that really funny, but I know it is a serious concer of many.
As I pointed out your Tory Council has lost £650,000 in 2 years and the amazing thing is you didnt even notice,or believed everything that you were told.
I have kept out of the political side on the Forum recently but some of your postings are like the rest of the Tory group something from Walt Disney. It is all rosie and havent we done well,no things are Black because of the way this Council is going and you haven't done well.
How many solicitors and Legal advicer do we employ........I will give you the answer 10 yet we are doing away with a Dog Warden, disgusting!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

roger;
I don;t wish to drag you into purda but your sailing cloIse to the wind, but it's fine as i'v told your leader whem he tried to silence me many times on here it's a matter of opinion and choice, and it's you that has to face any outcomes.
with regard to your posting, I cannot afford another 4 years of going no where conservative controlled council in dover district.
many developers have tried to come here before under your administration but have gone awayh because your administrations planning department has not got the go ahead look about it, more a reasons why things can't be done/.
Obviously i sense the desperation of your posts roger, knowing that your about to serve the next 4 years in opposition
the sooner we are rid of this conservative administration the better roll on may 5th

for me i could never jump ship to join any othe party when packed up that was my lot because my left leaning politics cannot be served by any other party
so sue please feel free to be critica;l of opposition ;leafets but please don't be surprized when opposition partries say the same on tory leaflets on here

One can't simply state that a particular leaflet contains misleading information without quoting the passage to which they refer and their interpretation.
Please highlight the so called lies dont simply say a leaflet contains them.

Roger, development should be in finding work for local people.
With all the unemployment gpoing about here, and the abundance of empty houses anyway, what on earth do we need more "development" for, when this means building more houses and schools, of which we have more than enough.
The truth is, the local administration is not capable of finding incentives to increase local productivity for us local people, bnut always harps on about developments for new suburbs.
You no doubt know that my vote won't go to the Tories here on May 5th!
It goes to Apathy!
