I thought she was but Keith just said councillor, I was being a bit picky I suppose, sorry.
That grey lump is certainly a big eyesore for those living in the area regardless of all the planning issues.

I don't know if it applies to doctors or pharmacies, but my experience of reading the small print of our public liability and employee liability insurance policies is that if all necessary licences and permissions are not in place, claims may be rejected.

interesting point raised by peter there. on the issue of the portacabin itself nothing can be done about it until such time as an application is rejected.

Would someone please tell me when portakabins stopped being temporary structures because, as such, I had always thought that they do not require planning permission. If I am wrong, please tell me....

And business premises have no PDRs under which temporary structures may be erected.

Yes there is an application. So it turns out that you do need planning permission for any temporary structure if it is on site more that 28 days, however you do not if it is there during the construction or refurbishment of something that already has permission. So there you are, I have learn't something tonight.
So, when the new pharmacy gets its permission the temporary one will already have its own. Belt and braces.
No one seems to be having a go about one car one doing the same thing, not a portakabin of course, but trading before permission is granted. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!
I have now read all the planning comments which are not very helpful and most are not valid to planning matters. Hey ho. It's been an interesting thread though hasn't it!

There are other councillors on the case, some of DTC, and some from District, unfortunately there is only one councillor from Dover on planning and that is Roger.
Yes Jan I sit on planning at town level, and town did not pass this application as they did not think a portacabin a secure place for drugs to be kept.
It looks to me that this doctor is a dictator, he has his own rules, does'nt matter on the rules of the country, evidently the Queens English is not clear to him

Ooh, I think you ought to think very carefully about saying that kind of thing out loud! Makes you sound intollerant and everso slightly racist which I am sure cannot be the case as you are a councillor and that kind of thing would be verboten.

I did not read Sheila's post in that way at all. I often used to use the expression 'don't you understand the Queen's English' years ago when my children did the opposite of what I had told them

I wondered how long it would be before somebody on here raised the "R" word. Nothing racist in Sheila's comment at all. Get real.

Simon,
How am I being racist this man is British, and there is nothing racist about what is the laws of the land, made by a goverment and passed by the Queen.
If I were to write what is being said by some locals, I would be in trouble, but I am not that stupid.

I have written to various people at the Planning department, including the Planning Enforcement Officer, about this porta-cabin issue, my latest email (last Thursday) was this:
Good Afternoon Rachel
I have it on good authority that Dr. Premnath is opening his porta-cabin Pharmacy next Monday - 26th. of November.
In your previous email Rachel, you stated "If they use it as a pharmacy then they need planning permission".
Looks like they are going to use it as a pharmacy before being given planning permission - that's if it is to be granted PP.
I am copying Jim Mcewen in on this email and hope that despite his very busy schedule, Jim will give this his full attention.
I have just called the Case Officer and left a message asking her to contact me; I'll let you know her response - and the Enforcement Officer's.

Ok, I am sorry but knowing that the Dr is Indian and from India, I did think it looked a bit naughty, however Barry is right, I wrote it with a twinkle in my eye!!
Roger I do hope you have written about the other already started projects and retrospective applications elsewhere in the town. I think I mentioned before about the need to be even handed over these planning issues. It would be terrible to victimise a Dr and not a cabby wouldn't it. I am sure Mr Mcewan is indeed very busy dishing out S215 threats to poor desperate property owners!

I'm a witness to the twinkle alluded to in the above post, very twinkly all round this morning.
