Just thought I'd join in the fun on this thread and upset as many applecarts as I can in one go
Wasn't the Buckland Mill site a SEEDA project - and SEEDA was one of the regional agencies that John Prescott set up so that there would be a regional government organisation in place for full EU compliance when Labour signed us up to the Euro?
And very little happened on the site until after the 2010 election when the regional agencies were told they were being shut down so they'd better get on and spend their money quick - just my memories of press reports, maybe someone in the know could confirm.
I've been involved as a parish councillor with grit bins, a boring but necessary detail at this time of year, and it's down to local ward councillors to let KCC Highways, who are responsible for them, know what's needed.
Finally there's a couple of interesting items in the Dover Express today - one that David should read by Steve Manion, extolling the virtues of hardworking parish councillors (no allowances unlike town and district!) doing their unpaid bit for their communities.
And another by Terry Sutton about the demise of local pubs. He recalls how the landlord of the Ancient Druids in Stembrook (what a great name) was killed by a shell in WW2, and the pub was demolished "in order for the council to redevelop the area" - in 1952!
