Well this certainly has developed(excuse the pun lol)
Now to answer some of the points
PETER; I would support your aims to speed up applications, but sadly that would be left to someone to decide which were
speeded up and as i have little confidence in the planning dept im not so sure they should decide.
DAVID; We will differ(and maybe even agree on some) there are a few cllrs from the 2 parties that work hard

It was to do with your assertion about social or commercial benefits. I vote on what I think is right, I don't get told how to vote.

Out of interest when Labour had the controlling vote on the DDC did they shake up the Planning Department or do they just think it should happen now, two faced or is it a pot kettle black situation.
I hope this thread does not end up the same as before Christmas.

Jan;
you did well there, whilst not wishing to take sides, you jump in with both feet!!! of course mainly to support one party
and thats fine and dandy.
Now back to your question sadly the majority of cllrs(sure iv gone through this before but will again)
from both parties are happy to allow the officers to run the council,
now to explain this a little further;
To run the council it would be difficult to do it on a part time/ad hoc basis, bearing in mind also that many of the cllrs hold down full time jobs so therefore even if there were a move in this direction(which there wont be) council wouldn't be able to afford it.
So the officers fill the void.
So it'snot a political thing, both main parties are happy to be officer led

The Politicians set the policy, the officers, being the professionals, carry them out.

David
Yesterday you asked about regeneration I believe ? The following is a list of regeneration projects and plans being worked on and have been worked on.
Aylesham
The Maritime Skills academy
DTIZ
Western Heights
Whitfield
Buckland Mill
New hospital for Dover
Dover Priory Station
Westmount
Bus Rapid Transport system
Duke of York's school
Connaught Barracks site
All are at various stages - some being built, some at develpment stage, but all will be good for Dover when finished and will generate employment.

Roger, are you being serious? Most of those are just pipedreams, others are nothing to do with DDC, others simply haven't been regenerated.

i had just about given up on the buckland mill site at the time work started, now it is begining to look great. whitfield is another issue as many didn't see it as needing regeneration. connaught barracks shows no sign of action was up there 3 months back.
have heard whispers about westmount, great if it happens would complement the mildmay site.
hospital!!

The flats at Buckland Mill look very nice, what involvement have DDC had?
Roger I can only assume you have your tongue firmly in your cheek with the rest, I mean what on earth has DDC got to do with a military school?
As for the DTIZ and hospital as examples of DDC regeneration, you must live in a paralel universe.

The DDC regeneration officer has worked/works, closely with all the developers on the above projects.
If there is no collaberation between DDC and developers, their plans would come to nought.
No I don't live in a parallel universe.

# 374......spot on
# 384....the Regeneration Manager on the Hospital was officially told that the Maison Dieu site was on a `flood plain`in Sept
2007....he delayed the project for two and a half years going through the time wasting procedures of scrutiny committee`s,
Council meetings ,KCC HOSC meetings until the Government Inspector told him he could not build the Hospital on the Maison
Dieu site....typical planning dept mentality.....
On DTIZ I had the privilege to launch the project in 1998 /99......14 years ago.........DDC progress.!!!!!!!!...........

the buckland mill lay dormant for 10 - 15 years with a sign outside saying that "seeda" was working for a world class region!
they get the bums rush from central government and action starts to happen.
