The first question to the Stagecoach rep will be "why did you tender for the route in the first place knowing the problems from when you had the contract before".
The second question will be to the KCC rep "why do you say Clarendon St is the same width as Clarendon Place when the former is clearly wider.

The Mercury is now joining in the fun and are sending a photographer along to Clarendon Place tomorrow at 3. 30 pm. The only problem is they haven't said what end of the longest unbroken terrace on the U.K. mainland.

Sorry but I find this a storm in a tea cup. We all know that there is not the room at times to get a bus along there and they done right in stopping it from doing so,A bus must run to a time table so if a bus is running late because it cannot get to the end of the road that means all the public waiting at bus stops after that one are not getting to where they are going and it could be raining they to could be old folk .
As I said before they never had a bus going that round when I lived up there we walked down to the Folkestone rd.
Lots of old folk living up there then with walking sticks but they had to get down the hill to the bus stop.
You have to look at it from both sides.
But the bus company must take some of the blame for putting a bus service along there in the first place. .
The bus can get up both ends of that street turn at the top back down then the same at the other end by doing that all you have to do is walk to the end of the road.and that is alot better then we had to do years ago.

Both Clarendon Street and Belgrave Road are sensible options as they are wider than Clarendon Place.

Surprisingly large turnout despite the confusion over the time and venue, many people who do not use the service themselves giving their support. With both local newspapers involved pressure is being brought to bear on KCC and Stagecoach.

The Mercury got things slightly wrong as the route has not actually changed yet.

Just to clarify a couple of points; I have been reading back on the posts and notice that a comment about the District Councillors not caring as no comment has been made or attendances made at meetings.
I have been in Australia but have kept up to date about this and have written to KCC and DDC about it offering some suggestions and asking questions.
I agree that this service should not be taken away and am surprised that so soon after taking it over, they want to take it away.
Regency seemed to try harder and I thought their bus was a little smaller, so I was surprised Stagecoach wanted it.
I will endeavour to be at the CAWCA Hall on Friday.

Very interesting meeting this evening a full report will be posted here over the weekend by Phil W-B who took copious notes.
There were about 70 people there who were clearly impassioned about the issue and the delegates from KCC and Stagecoach South East were put on the spot. The cessation of the route has now been put back indefinitely while test runs on other roads plus other options are explored.

I do think that if local people called parking services everytime they saw an irresponsibly parked car or van and gave the number and if that was accompanied by a "rapid response team" of enforcerment officers, it may well help.
I'm sure that if these drivers were being fined each time they parked badly/ilegally, they'd soon stop. But we do need a commitment from parking services that they will help/co-operate.
I do think the current route helps most people and the suggested one is just a compromise, but what is most important, is that the bus service stays.

I think you are being a bit hopeful there Roger, parking services only visit on a very early Sunday morning.
Irresponsible parking is not illegal anyway, my belief is that the pressure exerted on Stagecoach/KCC this evening will result in a diversion up Belgrave Road to Clarendon Place.

If it is on double yellow lines on a corner, stopping a bus from getting through, it is.
It may we be that the bus will go up Belgrave, but for those people who live in Clarendon or near the top of Malvern where the bus should go, then it won't help them much.

That is the thing Roger it is very few people who use the bus live in the part of Clarendon Place near the Malvern Pub. The vast majority who get off at the junction of Clarendon Place and Belgrave Road live in the last few houses or in the Westbury's.

It shouldn't have been made out to be a political issue, but that report looks very biased insinuating that only Labour are helping, which is simply not true.
Both Peter and I have written to KCC about this and I know that both of us believe most strongly that the bus service should continue to be provided.
It is good that a solution may be found.
