The 68 bus is currently stuck halfway down Clarendon Place and the rumour is that from April the bus will not attempt that part of the route.

Further farce this afternoon when the driver got about 20 houses down then realised he couldn't get through so with the help of a passenger reversed all the way back, time lost about 15 minutes.

If it is inconsiderate parking and not illegal parking causing the problem then double yellow lines would seem to be the answer.

Double yellows are not the answer Martin there is no enforcement of the current ones other than the odd Sunday morning.
Getting back to the fire engine problem Clarendon Rd formed part of the route of the 68 until 5 years ago the problem then is the same as now. Commuters park on both sides which is ok on the way up as the road is wide enough, it then turns sharply towards Clarendon Place but people park on the bend so that only cars can get through.

There is no answer then Howard, people will not stop being inconsiderate and there is no likelihood enforcement will improve.

Maybe stagecoach should think about re-routeing the 68 service, along Clarendon Rd perhaps?

I think you mean Clarendon St Phil, I suggested that Stagecoach last Autumn and they told me that they fully agreed but they run the service on behalf of KCC. I then contacted the latter various times and have never had the courtesy of a reply. I then contacted one of our county councillors who said "leave it with me". That was 3 months ago!!
I note that none of our seven district and town councillors have shown an interest either, the elderly and infirm are forgotten.

Thanks Howard, I guess you are right, I am sure that this issue is far from 'unknown' to those who sit on whichever council, no votes in it perhaps? Local councils are not involved and county can't be bothered, surely someone in Dover can rattle thier cage, otherwise I can see stagecoach doing thier best, as some drivers do, and the service will continue to be hit or miss everyday.

A sign on the bus stop in Priory street announces that in future the 68 Bus will go straight down the Folkestone Road on its way to Maxton.
A special thanks to our councillors for showing no interest whatsoever.

Probably no money to set up the working party that they would establish to investigate the matter and to pay for the report that they would commission!

So there we are, I guess it was always on the cards that we would lose the 68 service, it does seem that no-one was going to help save it, and all because someone can't park thier car. What a shame, some of the older folk will really miss it.

Many will simply be housebound, I would like to know how KCC reached their decision as Stagecoach have no authority to change the routing.

Maybe Pam could help, after all she is a KCC, DDC and DTC councillor, because of her intervention the area where I asked for help has been improved far beyond my expectations.

The problem of parked cars isn't going to go away. Perhaps the time has come for smaller buses in residential areas?
Smaller fire engines too, do they need to be that big?

With buses Eu rules brought in a few years back decreed that every one has to be wheelchair friendly which ruled out the smaller buses that ran then, interesting point about fire engines.

Do we know from when this lose of service comes into effect?
