As we all know the roads up and around there were build over 100 years ago they were not build to take what is going up and down there today 100s of homes without parking so it must go on the roads.
Bus never went round up there in my 30 odd years of living up there cars have to park some where and also the public that do not have cars need the paths to walk on some young mums with prams and kids and us older ones with sticks etc.so you can not put the blame on to any council or members of the public that park there. The only way out is like what was going to happen years ago you pull the lot down and do a rebuild till that happens nothing can be done, but stop the bus going along the roads they can come to each end.
There was old folk living up there when we was young and all of us walked down to the Folkestone rd bus stop

Clarendon St is wide enough anyway there is a meeting tomorrow the 23rd at the Malvern pub starting at 12. 30 pm.
Representatives of KCC and the Dover Express will be in attendance, doubt if any of our elected representatives will though.

I assume Roger must be away as he has not made a comment.

Won't know until the morning Phil.
Jan, the thread has been going for 4 years without any councillor making a comment about the bus service.

There are smaller, specialist buses available but it would require KCC to buy one for the service. Ironically, Stagecoach still have one of the older, non-wheelchair accessible, minibuses but they cannot legally use it where fares are charged. It is kept for free diversions through narrow lanes where larger buses can't be used - for example, when flooding closed the Elham valley last year.

There will be many more roads that will prove near impossible to get through in the future. Mount Rd further along the route in Maxton is getting ever more difficult with cars having to park fully on the pavement to enable traffic to flow meaning buggy users having to use the road a lot. If that part of the route is closed then there will be a lot of housebound people as it is much higher up than Clarendon Place.

Bit of a non event with 30 or so of us standing around in the bitter wind for about 40 minutes until we realised that Stagecoach weren't sending a representative. Both of our county councillors turned up but really we needed one of their officers to explain why a new route could not be agreed.

Sorry I never got there, I could not get scooter out, hopefully next meeting will be in the warm, at the community centre, we cannot let Stagecoach get away with this, every time they get the contract this is the first route they try to axe, the trouble is they do not let their drivers use their heads, they must not divert from the route. The coach company previously, if they could not get through on the original route would divert and come up to the top of Belgrave Road and drop Clarendon Place passengers off, reverse and go back down the way they came, they always delivered people to the highest point, this was not a mini coach, it is the same size bus that stagecoach have, so if one company can do it why cant Stagecoach.
Stagecoach have already breached the contract by letting two of their drivers who refuse to even attempt to go up the Clarendons do their own thing and drive straight up the Folkestone Road, if Stagecoach cannot deliver then take the contact off of them

Should be a good turnout for that meeting now that word is spreading. I think many were surprised when Stagecoach tendered for the route last year and even more surprised when they beat Regent coaches to it. Rather ironic earlier when we were standing outside the Malvern and the bus couldn't even get as far as Clarendon Place let alone go down it.

Perhaps the Stagecoach rep didn't turn up because he was coming by bus Howard!

Considering who the co founder of stagecoach is I wasn't overly suprised to hear they had won the contract!

Just seen an E mail from the KCC officer concerned and they are clearly determined to close down the route in the Clarendons.
They actually claim that they have route tested Clarendon Street and said it was the same width as Clarendon Place despite the fact there is a clear difference. When a driver has detoured down there they get a clear run without ever having to even slow down.

KCC will have a fight on their hands, we won't give in, once leaflets printed, need a few volunteers to deliver, this will not only effect the Clarendons but also the Mount Road as well, what Stagecoach has suggested is disgusting.

Straight down the Folkestone Rd this morning, maybe Stagecoach have brought forward their decision to close part of the route in April.
