In the real world DDC has always been, and still is officer led im sure peter g agrees.
now theres no party politics on the parking issue
as no agency will touch it

Thank You Keith.
As Peter G is not a Councillor and you are not a Councillor any more, neither of you can say. It may have been the case when Labour were in power at DDC, but that is hard to imagine as correct, because the Conservative administration have always balanced the budget, despite the cuts from Central Government and Labour could not.
Labour were told time and time again not to do certain things on spending, but you all ignored advice from the Officers, so you ended up in the financial poop.

someone asked me to resurrect this issue as he looks in but does not want to be a member, i said i would but it would probably be taken over party political point scoring.
he thought i was exaggerating!!

neither roger or yourself have referred to the hardship suffered by the elderly and infirm since i resurrected this thread.
clearly point scoring is more important - if we were to be political kcc and ddc are both blue controlled and only the former are interested in sorting the problem out.

Howard;
lets get down to the nitty gritty,
you have a real issue with the parking
and iv not raised the political side of things, to remind you as you appear to decided to forget the many posts,
1; No agencies police, councils, fire brigade, ambulance all say they will not push the issue, as it will divide the community
down the middle
2; the fire brigade have said that should they wish to get to a fire they will,
3. community opinion is divided on the issue so who would want to divide the community
4; Even if the end result was to get all the cars parking on the road, this would mean the buses would not ever be able
to get through, so by solving one problem, you will be creating another.
so thats just for starters

well Keith I do understand where Howard is coming from. I am a Driver of a Car too, but the parking on the road become awefully selfish. It wasnt that bad a view years ago.
One Day, I couldnt pass Belgrave Road from the top as two vehicles one van and one car parked opposite each other so narrowly I couldnt risk to damage the car. I got in trouble with the Police for using my horn!! Pathetic in my opinion. They did guide me through and then walked away. He did admit it was very narrow.
I have learned to always park responsibly. But it seems like no one bothers. So the idea with printing a leaflet or online poster to remind Motorists on their parking responsiblities wouldnt harm??? Seems like it gets ignored ... at least suggest a different alternative???

Heike,
As a car owner you would be fully aware (if you travel around the clarendon's) of the issues, and i presume if you ever parked in these 2 roads you didnt park partly on the pavement?
Im very interested in any alternative, at the moment I havnt heard of any workable ones, but it would be good if there was one.
So lets go over it briefly again,
1; If all cars were made to park on the road, the road would be to narrow to get the bus through, so the much needed
bus service would stop.
2; we all agree that the problems have increased over the years because there are more and more cars on the
roads over the years, predicted to become a grid lock in many places in 2022
but more car usage has never seriously been challenged, thus, we are where we are in clarendon today.
3; suggestions to allow parking on just one side of the road, who decides which side can park?and where do all
the other cars go? and whos going to enforce it
4; one way was suggested but really opinion on that divided, and would create traffic speeding along the
clarendon's.
So at this time with the emergency services saying they wont take the issue om
local councils want a big majority to any change(which isnt the case at mo) so they wont take it on
We are stuck with a problem, that no one at the moment knows how to resolve, but may make suggestions
but not thinking out what will happen should come about.
Im interested in any views from the council, councilllors for the area to see if they have ways forward
but it will need to be thought out,
the last time the council involved itself in an attempt to change clarendon, they made a pigs ear of it lol

parking one side of the road in clarendon place would solve the problem for both bus/delivery vehicles and pedestrians.

Like i said, ideas not thought out would not solve the problem,
let me again explain why the latest idea wouldnt work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
firstly
Clarendon place is a long road, I wouldn't want to estimate how many cars park each side of the road,
so, if we(whoever)decides to ban parking on one side, where do the 50 or so cars park instead?
who will enforce it?
as i said it needs to be thought out

I think it would be possible to access the old play area if the entrance was widened slightly, a road created and a parking area for the homes which back onto the field established. That would at least remove 50% of the cars.
Stand back and wait for the flack...........

I think I am right thinking that a lot of the houses in both Claringdons have parking along the alleys at the rear of the houses, or am I wrong in this?

plenty of garages/hardstanding in the alleyways, there is no need for the vast majority of cars to be on the road.

Whilst we wait for the council/cllrs for priory to reply, let me again give a view.
Now although not right, the situation has not altered over 30 years, in fact its worse, everyone predicting the increase in cars will be a problem.
The clarendons is not the only area in the ward suffering, as every day we see car owners jockeying for positions outside there homes every day.
only a few of the rear of the properties could take cars, but as i recall the locals wanted to park out the front so they could keep an eye on there cars, and road is better lit.
widen the road by all means,
but removing cars, who decides which side of the road can no longer park outside there homes
over to you cllrs,,,,,

I agree with KeithS.
It will be very difficult to resolve this issue(s) where you can please everyone, especially the residents.
I have written to various bodies over the years and no one has been able to come up with a "please-all" solution.
