oh well priory area sinks further into the third world with keith not wanting to upset car owners and roger wanting things to stay as they are.
the play area is a play area only for politicos whilst the folkestone road has a blind eye turned to it by the powers that be.
peter wallace had a summit with the heads of waste this week armed with a portfolio of photos, i don't rate his chances of getting a result.

It's not like you to be so pessimistic, Howard. I really hope progress can be made with all three issues. I am very fond of that area, having grown up in Elms Vale and walked down Folkestone Rd every day looking enviously at the big houses. They were mainly B&Bs then and the road was blighted by the constant stream of lorries, but I loved it especially the view of the castle directly ahead.

That was agood one Roder
but back to the parking, sorry but as I said the roads are to small does the bus need to go all around the side rds? years ago we would walk down to the bus stop on Folkestone rd.

It's not a case of "wanting" things to stay as they are Howard. It's also a bit of an exaggeration to say Priory sinks further into the third world because of parked cars.
The play area is not a politicos game, I've been trying to find a suitable site for years.
I have had many "summits" with a number of departments at DDC and have sent hundreds of photos to those departments (as you know I've often sent you copies of the emails and photos) regarding waste etc.
The officers will tell Peter that there is a protocol to follow and they are doing just that.
A nice positive post there Judith; Jean and I moved to Dover at the end of 1994, when the A20 and Tunnel workings had just finished, so no trucks, but it was a good road, with, as you say, many Guest Houses/B & Bs. It was much much cleaner, no rubbish or waste problems back then.
To us (and other B & B businesses), the turning point was the late 1990s when the immigration policy changed and Dover (and I believe parts of the rest of the country) became flooded with (mostly) illegal immigrants.

Howard
We could leaflet the priory stating its your idea to take half the cars off the road
and watch the reaction.
i have no problem upsetting anyone, but to get a solution it has to be thought out.
to remove one side of the road parked cars(who decides which side) who will enforce it?
where will these cars go?
if to the next roads along, all your doing is moving the problem, not solving it
over to you howard

can't find the original thread on this subject but the problem is still there, looks like staff car parking is making this dangerous situation.

Unfortunately Civil Enforcement Officers and PCSO's can't issue tickets for this. It's not a parking offence because he is entitled to unload. Only a warranted police officer can issue a ticket for driving on the pavement or obstructing the footway. Ironically if he parked a few feet out, just beyond the yellow lines, he would not be committing any offence while he unloads. From conversations I have had with DDC's finest, that is the legal situation.

I did wonder if that was the case as wardens patrol that part of town frequently, castle street and market square errant parkers know to their cost. no doubt the manager at the co-op is aware of the situation.

I can never understand why people park knowing an enforcement officer is never far away.

Those parking bays aren't very good anyway. Spaces for taxis that never seem to park there and 1 for the police who can pretty much park where they like. The whole stretch might just as well become pay & display like Castle Street.

The police box is not enforceable, I have this on good authority both from civil enforcement officers and staff in the parking office. But it makes me cross to see people abusing the taxi bays, knowing how much the cabbies are forced to pay so that the council will provide them. I also gather that parking restrictions in Cambridge Road outside De Bradelei Wharf & Cullins Yard aren't enforceable either, owing to some cock-up or other on the legal front. That was some years ago, it might have been sorted by now so don't take my word for it.

Certainly a strong case for extending the double yellow lines there, the bus was held up for only 5 minutes but there was a build up cars in no time.
