Yes Paul, we agree with that, its why they've gone out of business.
So, if you can see it and I can see it why couldn't the combined great minds of DDC?

The X-men were only one part of DDCs Environmental Crime Enforcement Strategy.
The other is that any officer or councillor (including town and parish) can volunteer for training for incident reporting which will be followed up by prosecution if the evidence is sufficiently strong - hopefully PaulW can confirm this part is still going ahead.

I would have thought that the councillors who are in employment have enough to do without signing up for litter patrols.
Maybe DDC could come up with their own self financing scheme which would also give a few people employment.

Now why didn't DDC think of that Jan?

A simple, but expensive business model...
"A WOMAN who faced court over allegedly throwing a cigarette butt onto a street told of her relief yesterday when she was acquitted by magistrates.
Mother-of-four Claire Bailey, 39, of Redwood Place, Ebbw Vale, appeared before Abergavenny Magistrates' Court over a charge related to dropping the cigarette end outside the New Look store in Ebbw Vale last year."

Surely XFor would have employed local people, it isn't a job that could be outsources to India

Like a lot of private parking companies they rely on speculative letters out to peope, they hope the vast majority will just pay and they will never go as far as the expensive route of going to court etc as it really isn't worthwhile...

Different thing Paul, they won't unclamp the car until you've paid, I've had that experience.

Thinking more of the ones with automated cameras that are popping up in a lot of shops these days

I certainly hope they would have but as they are no longer in the picture I fail to see the point of your post, I thought my post was self explanatory, obviously I was wrong.

ALDI has automated cameras, never heard of anyone being prosecuted though.

I see from the Mercury website that the company has now been sold by the administrators, so the company is still going. Perhaps we will still see the enforcement officers on our patch!

I know of at least two people who have been prosecuted for overstaying their welcome in the ALDI car park, they were both sent photographic evidence arriving and leaving the car park, times etc. The fines weren't cheap either!

Did they actually get procecuted Barry or did they just respond to the threatening letters?
Apparently some of the threat letters are of dubious legality and although they look 'official' they quite often are not !!!

I know 'someone' who got a ticket in the Co-op carpark in Sandwich, got sent a fine with a photo, then a reminder, then a red reminder, then a threat of court action, then a reminder of court action, then they gave up with no further contact. The someone just ignored them....
So far it cost the company a few stamps and printing, hoping for a nice payout !!
One of the letters had a legal looking portcullis type logo on it although it was nothing to do the courts !!!!!!!!

Paul, the 'someone' you know apparently did the right thing by ignoring the fine.
This sort of situation was discussed quite thoroughly on another forum about a supermarket or store (can't remember which) in Canterbury with the advice boiling down to ignore the threats of court action.

Also with Aldi car park, if you return within four hours of leaving, (well from memory I think it's four hours so check it out) they also send you a fine with photographic evidence. The parking rules look like they come from an official company so how is one to know. People get frightened and pay it, as if you pay it within a certain time it's half the amount.

Speculative threats is what it all it is about (if they don't clamp) as it is probably not economically viable to take a small fine through the courts
