john
i remember when you were handing them out from outside the town hall with jeanette.
i feel certain that your motives were all above board, just in case your solicitor is looking in.

The lights are very pretty this year, shame there was none in Castle Street, as PaulB says on front page, everyone loves that shot of Castle Street lit up with our glorious illuminated Castle in the background. Dont get me started on the other photo everyone loves, the fountain in full flow against the Castle background
I agree that it would certainly be a good idea to have a raised platform so all can see whats going on. Even though the screen did indeed come into its own, it was still sometimes impossible to see the screen as little children were perched on the shoulders of their parents and friends so they could see and rightly so
The Christmas tree is lovely with blue twinkling lights, well they looked blue to me. I was down there with daughter Briony and we really enjoyed ourselves. There was lots of Chrismas cheer about and we had a great laugh with people we had never met before whilst queuing for yummy donuts, for Briony of course
Well done to DTC and all who made it so enjoyable.

very atmospheric shots from colette.
a bit mystified as to why the town council refused help from l.r.c.f. especially as they had gained experience from previous events.

To save the cost of the mince pies and wine and the power that heats them.
Being rather selfish I was relieved the ladies from the shop did not have to hand them out this year as it meant we were not short handed as the ladies had to work instead of skiving off.

The last couple of years the heating was provided by the Park Inn Jan. I don't know how the "wine", diluted to about one and a half per cent abv, and the mince pies cost but I'm sure, no, I know that it would have been met.

Working on some members of the committee might be more appropriate John.

Funny how it is the people who dont seem to get involved in the organisation or delivery of these events that moan the loudest and also appear to believe they have a monopoly on the great ideas to make it better, yet seem incapable of grasping the basic economic realities of staging something like this.
John - LRCF are still prepared as we have been in the past to get involved and we would aslo like to explore ideas with DTC and the other community forums how we can make next year even better and more community focussed

Yes there certainly was a good turnout lastnight,to see the colourfull cast of the Marlow as shown in the very colourfull front page picture switch on the lights, just a shame the stage could not have been raised somewhat as there were alot of small children at the back who could not see, but luckily the screen captured all for those who were not able to see.
Some nice pictures here on the thread of the lights and the tree.
Just shame that we were unable to not stretch to castle street but there is always next year
Well done to DTC

Charlie sounds great Council tax up 100%

people you know who to blame now Charlie!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
And when I spoke to the mayor outside St Marys on Saturday she said that Dover had been turned over to the Community's this year, yet LRCF were told they were not wanted how down hearting for them that turn out to all events in dover, I bet there wont be a cut in civic dinners next year. Talking to many people from all over this county they think we are a joke. Do we now need a town Council and yes I think that if enough people got together I believe it could be made brighter and better and i for one will be having words with the town clerk after Christmas.

What are Civic Dinners Alan? If they exist I want to know why I have never had one, I even get my own biscuits for my Councillor surgeries.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Alan the only dinners we attend we pay for,the one in December is costing £26 for the Mayor's Goodwill fund to needy people, and I am making Sandwiches for the Band and the Salvation army(25-30 people),how many tickets have you bought.
As I said this was a new venture this year and it needs working on,it was a good day and everyone who was there enjoyed it,I will be bringing up some of the things on here with the Chairman as I think we realise that some things could be better and I believe the mince pies and mulled wine is one of those things.
Alan the only joke are those people who pull down this Town, read Ross's post#73.If you think you could do something to make it better please volunteer, perhaps you could spend thousands of £'s bringing a skating rink in,what a good idea, see Tunbridge Wells one hit problems it defrosted losing the man who brought it in thousands.Doesnt sound such a good idea now.
The staff worked really hard and lots of the Cllrs were ther too,I worked until 15.40 and was straight into the Office as security and got home at 7pm,did I get paid no it was me helping the Town Council Officers who were brilliant.
Alan if you got rid of the Town Council there would be no Town Clerk and the money they spend would mean no Christmas switch on.Unless of course you are going to give people the money I cant reveal the figs for the lights as we had a problem and sorted it and we explained why the lights wouldnt go to everywhere we wanted this year, but you are talking several 10's of thousands of £'s.Thank you for offering to help next year how much can I put you down for.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

OK...I gave no criticism whatsoever....apart from the plight of the Reindeer...
What I have given....are constructive, professional pointers for next year....since this year has been blighted, as usual, by the Town Burghers telling us they are doing favours to the town because low finances, busy Town Councillors, well over worked for us etc.....
Please do tell me what all of it did cost.?.....because it is is done properly you can make a good profit for the Town Coffers for the future....
What was the profit or the loss?
