Christmas lights
- 16 November 2011 09:57137106Is it right that both Dover Christmas Lights switch on and the Sandwich Christmas Carnival are being held at the same time on the same day, Saturday 26 November? Surely there could have been some co-operation to make sure they were on different days as they are in the same district.
- 16 November 2011 10:18137112Jim I think the reason for this, as I seem to remember something about it before, is that it allows the Marlowe Celebs to switch both on while out on the same trip kind of thing. The timings are staggered to allow this to happen. Now Im not entirely sure this is why it happens but it could be. Someone said as much to me previously.email: dover7@msn.com

- 16 November 2011 11:17137126The times are staggered Howard..something like 4pm switch on in Sandwich and 6pm in Dover. Now this is just off the top of my head re previous years. I dont know the timings this year(I have the info somewhere). For example Ade Edmondson would do Sandwich before he came here kind of thing. I do hope you can find the time to help them.

How long will your visit last today ?
What are your main reasons for visiting the Town Centre ?
Then some multi-choice questions, like:
Dover has convenient parking (yes/no)
Dover has a safe atmosphere (yes/no)
The people in Dover are friendly and helpful (yes/no)
The shops in Dover offer good value (yes/no)
The shops in Dover offer good variety (yes/no)
Dover Town Centre is attrractive (yes/no)
Dover Town Centre is clean (yes/no)
The shop fronts in the Town Centre are well kept (yes/no)
And so on and so on until these questions:
What are your priorities:
Improving shop fronts in the Town
Improving cleanliness of the Town
Providing a focal point in the Market Square (is this alluding to the Fountain ?)
Improving landscaping and planting around the Town
Providing more seating throughout the Town
Providing more litter bins thoughout the Town
Improving the street signage in and around the Town
Smartening up and improving the look of the street furniture

Dover Town Council have worked long and hard to bring you a great Christmas-Lights, Switch-On Day.
It is this coming Saturday, the 26th. starting at Mid-day, with switch-on at 5.30pm.
There will be all sorts of events and celebrations during the day, including real, live, reindeer.
Please see the poster below, but for listings of what's gong on and when. Pick up a leaflet from many local businesses and of course the Town Council offices.
Inside the leaflet is a survey the Town Council would like you to complete. It will be of great value to them if you are able to complete it as it will give them a greater idea of what you - the people of Dover, would like them to work on.

Paul is going to take part in the 3 Peaks Challenge in the summer of 2012; he would like you to help him raise money for Help 4 Heroes - here is Paul's letter.
"Good afternoon to you all, and thank you for taking the time to read this email.
In June 2012 I will be taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Help for Heroes; my son has recently joined the Royal Navy as an Officer Cadet whilst Dave's son is already serving and I have a number of friends and acquaintances whose children are serving in the Armed Forces.
Despite being well over 40 and slightly overweight I will be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in a 24 hour period across 30th June/1st July (which also happens to be Armed Forces Weekend), the expedition being organised by Evolution Outdoors Ltd. Every penny raised will go to H4H - I'm hoping to raise at least £2,500 so anything you can afford to give will be greatly received and appreciated, not just by me but also by our servicemen and women for whom H4H represents a return to some degree of normality.
I am hoping that you will be able to support me in one of two ways. Why does everything happen on a Saturday, I always miss out as the legs give out on me by the end of my shift.
