john will be back stewart, the man is a gentleman and a scholar.
besides i have got something on him.
those negatives are all in a safe place.
Right we have all had a say about what and what was not in the Town for Christmas Market Day for next year would you like an Ice Rink in Pencester Gardens the cost will be about £3 to £5 pound for skating amount of time for that not known yet but the Question is would you like to have one and also the market in the gardens, this is so we can approach the town council with this The Cost of the Ice rink for 3 days 10 - 8 pm on each day would be £6,000 + VAT. this only the first quote I have sent 15 requested

Whilst I appreciate the gardens are not used nearly as much as they could be. If you speak to some of our shops and cafe's they will tell you that Saturday was the best trading day they had all year due to the crowds. Moving the street market to Pencester may have a knock on effect on our shops.
Like the idea of a skating rink, I am certain we had one in Pencester not too long ago, cant remember why or what for though.

We had a lot of new faces in the shop on Saturday but when I left at lunchtime takings were about the same as most Saturday mornings.
I am not at all sure about the ice rink, £2000 a day could provide a lot of different entertainments that would suit all ages and abilities.

The skating rink was a bold move by I think a washing powder maker, or similar.
I didn't envisage moving the whole thing to Pencester, I was suggestion an alternative. It was plain from Saturday that the precinct and Market Square were too small. I did get it the neck from two shop keepers that their doors were being blocked. You win some you lose some.
Re John's remarks, I don't think that I was moaning, just being constructive.

It wasn't even ice Vic, it was slippery plastic.
I thought the bold joke was rather good myself.

I think we should probably all take a breather. let tempers cool and dust settle and pick this up with fresh views and ideas in January. I know that John would certainly like to involve the Community forums more and also the local traders, which is why he is looking to get LRCF involved with the lights for next year.
I think it would do the Town Council an immense amount of good and give them huge credit if they were to hold a meeting to plan next years activities and invite representatives from community and voluntary organisations, the 2 chambers of commerce, police, fire service and schools

sadly it seems par for the course that people work in isolation keith.
rather a pity when we have so many keen and experienced chaps/chapesses locally.
the shining beacon is the joint project the weekend before last where the western heights and white cliffs people got togethet with work up the heights.

Community groups were asked to participate, LRCF were told that they were not neede to take part in the handing out of the mince pies and wine, but were offered still to take part, but they never got back to the council

Our Chair was asked directly if she would like to do a "healthy cooking" demonstration - hardly involving the LRCF community and no one saw fit to contact the Secretary which is normal protocol in these matters.
Frankly it needs more thought than seems to have been applied this year - for instance we have a number of artists amongst our members, good amateur photographers/video makers, model makers, we run a highly successful book stall at other events etc..
I am sure other community groups have members with skills that could be used to involve visitors in.
Perhaps a stall(s) getting children to make christmas cards (printing or collage for example), christmas tree decorations from things like old CDs or origami decorations, or making felt elf or santa hats or similar festive items.

If it appears that I am constantly moaning....actually, I am not...I do not see my opinions any more controversial than the next...
I thought about this, yesterday.....and realised I have known this Town in better days.....with all this talk of the big Society, we are all in this together etc...I was surprised that such an event this year....was not a full on Band of Brothers etc...event....and shocking that many children simply could not see..
These events are not for the kudos of the Council, ...but for the Townspeople....
They could be better.....and I am appaulled that the arguments/personal attitudes are still going on... You have to give opinions, because how do you grow, if you do not understand the mistakes you make.....I think it very puzzling that the Councillors keep throwing their toys out of the pram, and say I am off....If you place yourself in Public Office you will get praise and flack.....tis life....Nothing is personal......Is this Town Council a Voluntary Organisation?
My sadness is...the Lights......all these years...and they are now so limited.

I agree Mr Norman, the lights are not like they used to be, but hopefully they will improve year after year, once upon a time it was not left to the council, shops used to decorate, the old Co-op used to put the lights up across the road from shop to shop, Woolies used to do the same, but sadly today you have not got that enthusiasm, and are tied with so many rules and regulations, all the points that have been raised have been noted.
Thank you for that......
The Brits do seem to have lost heart.....Go over to Calais, even tho' this Town is very affected by the Sea France situation....
Napoleon said we were a nation of small shopkeepers...I think the French are better......their Christmas lights, shop windows are lovely....even the trees in the streets are decorated.....
Seriously, they do not seem so bound up in rules and regulations.....

I think we have a thin line between being critical, and being abusive and totally negative.
I Feel mr norman is partly correct with his comments about elected officials unfortunatly it is part of the cause to get the flak from members of the public, maybe a better way would be to encourage those elected members.
getting elected is no easy thing as some posters have found on here.
