Well done Howard looks like you have been a busy boy with trusted camera already, see you around this evening for the switch on I am sure

I had a hobble about this morning on the walking stick, first time out in ages, and it was delightful to see the town so busy and see so many traders. It was buzzing!

a few disreputable characters hanging round the town centre earlier.

the big screen came in handy for those who could not get close.
our antlered friends stoking up before they are called into action later.
the bikers are always at these events nowadays.
not forgettng the carnival court.

Thought Stewart looked great in his Mike Myers outfit. Liked the old cars too.
Jenny, the owner of Curiosity of Dover was dressed up as a "Fallen Angel" - black gown and black wings and halo, with her assistant dressed as a "good angel" with white wings and halo.
La Salle Verte girls were dressed as elves, selling bowls of soup for just £1.50.
Quite a few stalls too and the busiest the Town has been for ages; hope many of the people were shopping, not just walking up and down.
Nice dry day, but a bit cool perhaps.
Are there lights on the tree ? I looked as I drove past but couldn't see any, if there are, they must be small lights.
Roger
Have you noticed in all the pictures except one thanks Nigel Stewart and Bill NO one in this town is smiling and its no wonder was in folkestone this morning bright colorful wonderful things going on Great. Come back to Dover only half of what was on last year,No minced pies or wine in front of town council offices, none of our snow queens on stilts no one singing from the top of the town council offices as in previous years in fact nothing at all the best ones to day were the vintage cars with tony and Stewart as Austin powers there were no fireman with there Christmas carols So we have come home not even stopped to see the disappointing lights switch on and people say we should shop locally well when they make this town brighter to go shopping we might do so,it seems that all the money is going to Folkestone and none of it is coming to Dover

What an unfair whinging post from Alan, we had a lot of customers saying how good it was in the town. BTW I think you mean Nigel, Stewart and Ted.
I have always thought the mince pies and wine were a waste of money with some greedy people wanting several of each, anyhow they had the workshop instead much more family orientated.

I worked in Folkestone and in Dover .Although tbe shopping centre in Folkestone is superior . The community spirit in Dover wins hands down any day

much as i enjoyed today alan raised some valid points about the usual street entertainment not being there.
the stiltwalkers, the bloke who paints himself up and pretends to be a statue and musicians were notable by their absence.
two items listed were circus skills workshops and morris dancers, i didn't see either though i can live with missing the latter.
I wonder if they where at the Sandwich event and couldnt get here in time for our switch on ?

On my way home I saw some young men all in red tops doing some acrobatics on the grass outside the flats at the Maison Dieu and Crafford Street junction.

Please don't knock it.
People moan when there's nothing and moan when there is
Until a few years ago we had nothing like this. I'm quite glad that the fair rides weren't there. they really are so expensive and it's hard to say no to children.
I've never seen so many people in the Market Square and most were smiling.
thanks to everyone involved in arranging the event.

Definitely saw Morris Dancers - but it was more spread out than usual and poorly advertised where things were
Overall though lots of people - most seemed happy and to be enjoying themselves
I would like to have seen more community stalls there, better signage etc

While loving someone deeply gives you courage" - Laozi
Indeed, but it was busy, a bit of fun, and people really were smiling! It was my first proper outing in town for ages, and it did my heart good to see it so busy and bustling and, yes, cheerful!
Sorry Jan, Thank you Howard,it is only as i saw it many people on Face Book to night were saying the same many with young children when Mike Web used to do it he got the pies at a very small cost and I never came back for a second in fact i would spend more money on the fair trade stall run by the council even though it was over priced, and as i said this town is dreary and needs cheering up. when i spoke to the Mayor today even she said it was to expensive to put the pies on this year, What we need is someone with a business head on them.
No argument with that Alan - we have all said many times that we need someone with a bit of entrepreneurial spirit to get things going. But todays do was a breath of fresh air frankly.

just a small point here, we know that street entertainers, mulled wine and mince pies were cut because of lack of funds, so where will the money come from to cover the events that are happenning every weekend between april and october next year?
