a bit unfair of you john, alan is involved in many voluntary tasks, the most notable being the "commonwealth war graves thingy", does free computer repairs and also played santa at the age uk christmas party last year.
not a pretty sight i have to say.

Yes perhaps I am being unfair Howard but I dont critise everything Alan does,I admire him for it big time but that doesnt give peiople the right who dont know the background to moan about everything they are not involved in.I know how much time the people who took part in the Officers and some of the Councillors put in to try and make it work and cost of a lot of money, for some people to say I could do it better, fine do it!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
JHG....
The problem is....it becomes personal....and you do not know what I am involved with....or have been for that matter..because I do not go on about it....
I will say this tho'...it was better when the Rotary Club, The Lions and the business people of Dover were integrated and included....in the days when I had a thriving business in Dover.
Opinions have be expressed....but a £40.000.00 loss of Public Funds is a lot, notwithstanding the loss regarding the Christmas Lights last year, which has led to the poor show this year.....
Here is a pointer......remarks like the Town has never been so busy, so many people.....well, the Town was busy, and has been busier because there were attractions and bustle to bring people to the Centre ......and a very good Saturday market..................

To the posters on Dover Forum who continually snipe, moan, bitch and whine about Dover. You do the town a great disservice by carrying on this way.
The Market Square on Saturday was full with the most people it's ever had, the Christmas lights switch on wasn't particularly well publicised but the public still supported the event.
The organisers gave of their time freely and apart from witnessing one fracas I believe it was safely policed (that happened after the switch on and was no doubt the result of too many Special Brews).
Yes, next year perhaps there shall be lights in Castle Street, there may be a raised staging area and better lighting around the Market Square stalls. The Marlowe pantomime cast said it was the best-attended they had been to on the day.
This forum is about Dover and frequented by the people of Dover but please remember it is also looked on by others outside the area. Your doing-down of the town really does not help.

I am an ex Lion Charlie,so you dont know much about me.I do my hardest along with lots of other people to make this Town better.Poor show where? It was a success but like all things can be improved, but not by sniping at what has happened but by getting down and doing things.
We can all sit at a computer and snipe moan critise and winge, personally I get on and try to make things work, this is why lots of people dont join the forum, because they put their heads above the wall and get put down time after time after time.
I do a lot of voluntary work in Town as well as working as working fulltime and being a Cllr. But from now on I am not going to bother posting on here,I am as honest as I can be but I am fed up with people slagging off all the good work in this town.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

i have to disagree with tony and vic, people moan mainly because they like the town and want the best for it.
to simply pretend that everything is perfect does the town a disservice.
we are presently moaning about the fountain and lack of hospital but also there are many comments about the good things here.

er... likewise Vic
Howard, there are posters who do nothing but moan, they are the posts that visitors take the most notice of. I would imagine that every member wants the best for the town but to keep on about what's bad does no good at all.
There's plenty of towns a lot worse than Dover, and other towns that are better. That's the way it is, always will be, every towns citizens will wish the best for where they live.

Charlie.
Maybe it would be a good idea if you told us more about yourself such as the "thriving business in Dover" you had.
I hate making personal posts about other members but I am fed up with your moans and continual running down of Dover and those who seek to improve the area, even if they do get it wrong at times.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

you are right tony about other towns, some are better some worse than us.
i believe in being as factual as i can, i do try to praise good things that happen and criticise the bad things.
i have started threads showing the ugly things like the neglected plant troughs and rubbish thrown in the river, but have also started threads on our stunning seafront, views from the western heights and the castle amongst others.
of course there are a few that only see the bad side of things, hear them in town every day.......
i think we get a fairly balanced set of opinions on this forum and we are lucky to have councillors and the like posting here.
JHG , as you may have realised from some of my posts I will ask questions and argue my point where I feel it is necessary , In this case given the circumstances you where all working under , which are clearly documented on the forum I think it looks like a great show and I would like to say thank you

Sad to see yet another Councillor feel that they have to leave this site. I would like to wish JGH all the best.

I think everybody involved with Saturday did it for the good of the town, a lot of hard work and sadly not a lot of gratitude shown. Well done to all involved in organising the day.
By the way John, when did you say those Reindeer steaks would be ready for me to collect?
