10:4489170Just to clarify a comment from Bern above #97 - street furniture is anything on the public highway or footpath. It refers to such things as seats, phone boxes, bollards, litter bins, 'A' boards, planters, as well as commercial activity such as shops extending onto the footpath/road or table and chairs outside a pub or cafe.
All street furniture has to be agreed by the Highway Authorirty, in our case, Kent County Council, and in some cases Dover District Council, who issue the various licences and decide the planning applications taht are frequently needed especially with outside trading.

11:4689190At the Age Concern shop on a Saturday we are very careful where we place tables and boxes so they do not stretch out onto the pavement.

14:2091162No!!!!!!!!!
Hardly worth taking the driver to court for a result like that. A car is a lethal weapon so with any avoidable accident the charge should be something like attempted manslaughter.

14:3091163totally beggars belief, the man even gets to keep his licence, i wonder whether he will bother to pay the fine, most don't.

14:5391166I think the 6 points pushed over the disqualification level Howard.

16:3991172Seems a very light sentence but I suppose that is the law.
Bearing in mind that the Air Ambulance had to be used and we are so fortunate that this is available to us due to the tireless efforts of volunteers and fund raisers It would good if these offenders had to pay towards the associated costs incured.
Anyway John glad the lady benefitted from the air ambulance facility that may well have saved her life and hope she made a full recovery

17:0991177i cannot see anything less than 5 years being a fair sentence, a message has been sent to the driver that his offence is minor.
the lady my make full physical recovery, i doubt that her mental condition is the same as it was before the crash. probably terrified when crossing the road now and looking over her shoulder when walking on a pavement.

22:5691234To add insult to injury one of the crash barriers set to go is outside her house! She is still walking with a stick and her memory of the accident and in general has not yet returned to normal!

23:0291236maybe she could write to ken clarke our "justice minister"?
he would then be able to explain to her that prison is not an option.

08:2191255It is a disgracefully light sentence - beggers belief.
I agree with Howard, 5 years would have been about right and it does give out a very bad message to the driver.
I bet he's laughing with his mates over this.

12:2692390this issue of the railing removals is gathering apace, been studying a document that shows that the work is intended to take place before the end of the financial year.
this leaves no time for the joint transportation board to meet and discuss the issue, final recommendations from d.d.c. have to be in by the 22nd of this month.
a brief glance at the report shows that the officer responsible at d.d.c. has recommended the following railings to be removed.
junction of maison dieu road/park st/park ave and godwyne close.
" " " /castle st(near to eastbrook place)
" "pencester road/biggin street
york street central reservation
will study the rest of the report and post later.
