21:0971227Bern, a reasonable question and not offended in the least. I will try to answer.
1. Leadership - have held senior management positions in several major companies (Motorola, P&O, Bull, CBRE) and a couple of SME's. Have headed up departments to Exec level (C level) in multiple sectors, multiple disciples., i.e. Finance, Sales, IT, Customer Support. Have successfully managed multi-disciplined teams from multiple nations on international projects across the globe. And so on and so on.
Operate with a progressive leadership style, from the front and all that means. Have built a reputation for rescuing failed projects and creating high performing teams, sometimes from almost impossible situations. Love it lots and am a real adrenalin junkie, much to the annoyance of my GP who thinks I should be planning for pipe and slippers, as if!!
2. Religion/Leadership - studied for the cloth some years back. Local minister went insane (nothing to do with me, honest!) and church couldn't afford a replacement. I was studying with another guy and the Head Deacon asked me and him to lead the church with deaconate assistance. I took the view this would be good experience and agreed, the other chap declined. I took prayer meetings, services, ran youth club and attended after service meetings with the young kids getting "into God". I was baptised at 19 so took (and still do) my belief very seriously. My approach was to maintain the sacrosanctity of the message in the Bible, but give it's message a relevance to the time we lived in. A trebling of congregation, from 19 to 57 was evidence enough for me that was what people wanted, not some remote figure blabbing ancient or Victorian stuff at them. Malcolm Muggeridge and Billy Graham were very influential to me. It was a tough couple of years and I discovered that my calling was elsewhere. Hence the road to answer 1.
I am no expert, but not a greenhorn either. I hope that answers your question. Apologies if I've been too personal for some, but I honestly have no intention of eventually publishing my life story.

21:1171228What do you want? Perfection and certainty? Because you won't get that for the simple reason that we are people. We are fallible (don't let's get dragged into that papal fallibility thing, it's not worth it), vulnerable and wonderful. We do odd things, have odd thoughts, and make strange decisions. I have two favourite sentences: Life's too short, and Everything matters but nothing matters frightfully. I get it wrong and I don't understand diddly squat, but I have the right to form opinions, worship if I want to, and make decisions you wouldn't make. As long as I don't stop you doing the same I reckon we can rub along. Oo-er missus.
PS - I went to be a Nun once too - dropped out after a few months. And Leadership means different things for different arenas. Thank you, by the way. I think we have a lot in common...................

21:1971230Bern, I agree with what you say, but don't understand the perfection and certainty jibe. To answer what I want is simple. Honesty, openness and a genuine heartfelt apology for those abused from the main man himself. Not too much to ask for from the head of a church surely?

21:4571240No jibe, Sid - sorry if it came across as that. I was probably a little nettled by Ricks rants as well.......It was just a question, honest! I am with you about the apology - a little humility and acceptance of corporate responsibility seems appropriate. Nothing to do with faith/religion or anything else. Just humanity.

I respect your opinion but objected to your slight on my character by you making the false assumption and stating inter alia.."fine, you're obviously not that bothered that thousands of children were abused. Maybe we should give Gary Glitter a break too"
Not really called for old boy.
Anyway like your goodself thats my final contribution on this thread. Pip pip

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

i referred to your jibe on a thread about a month ago.
you were rattling on about all left footers being kiddie fiddlers, the same day a report on the news referred to a british baptist minister being arrested and charged for same in the u.s.a.

09:2771296Oh I see, didn't know that. Anyway, the Baptist Church isn't run like the Catholic or CoE sects. Parishioners money isn't spent on baubles for the church and finery for the boring farts holding services. There is no single leader of the whole Baptist stream, they are a non-conformist bunch, in more ways than one.
With regard to the Yank kiddy fiddler, to use your terminology, he deserves to be castrated and locked up for life with no hope of remission. As do all paedophiles. Unluckily for this guy, there is no monlithic organisation to cover his tracks for him.

12:2271308Ho! One moment! Howard, you state that all beliefs and creeds - including atheists (?) have the right to express their views in public without fear of ridicule or aggression.
However, Rick just previously stated: ''To me all religion is evil and a huge blemish on this world''. This is ridicule, insulting, offensive and aggressive!
If I had written something like that concerning atheism, I am sure I would have been hosannered down in a flash of lightning and thunder and severley rebuked!
Rick, I will state though, with thought-out and weighed words, that your view - which I quoted - is WRONG!

12:2471309Bob, the link is simply by typing (preferably on Yahoo): the origins of the English Church. It will come out on top on the front page.

13:5371319Vic, with the greatest respect, I think it should stay.
I have read and re-read the interview that the pope gave on the plane coming over and he really still does not seem to 'get it'.
To quote 'The just punishment is exclusion from all possibilities of access to young people because we know that this is a disease and free will does not work where there is disease. '
He is STILL saying that paedophile priests should be 'swept under the carpet' and furthermore suggesting that their behaviour is due to a 'disease' rather than some perverted lust.
The full interview is here :-

20:1071364That sign not only made me chuckle but reminded to let readers know the Whitfield Hill pavement is again covered in the debris from the escape lane. Was sort of hoping a "white knight" would quietly appear and clean it all up again.
